The biggest loser?
If France lose this game their world cup campaign will be shocking, 3 loses and just one win against a self imploding England side.
If Wales lose their balance sheet wont make pretty reading either. One win against a tier one nation, and barely scraping past the fourth seeded team in their group.
Even the winner of this game will most likely go on to lose to the winner of Aus/SA, its only in really winning the cup you could look at eithers record and say it was genuinly good rather than the equivelant of decent 6 nations crown.
Lets not forget the biggest loser of 2007 was Brian Ashton, despite guideing his side to a world cup final beating tri nations opposition and the strongest NH team along the way. People werent fooled by how far the side got in that cup, it was still a poor showing.
So lets not kid ourselevs, France and Wales may have low expectations and accept a semi as a great acheivement but if a 1 win out of 3 against tier one opposition is your idea of success perhaps you need a review. Perhaps all the hype just reflects how utterly poor wales have been in the past.
(good luck wales)

It's pretty poor that you feel the need to post things like this. Does it make up for the inadequacies of your own teams performance?

Wow Seabiscuit, you are putting a great deal of effort to try and demerit the Welsh campaign, after all we're just psyched about still being in the competition... which means we have two more occasions to watch our boys in action and thats the crux of it really we're never happier than when we've got a game on!!!!
Passionate about the game first and foremost!

Seabiscuit is having a laugh - chill out! The welsh team is looking good and win or lose its been a success - Lots of things to look forward to for this bunch of players and the team can only get better.
I think Biscuit is actually about to star in Pobl Y Cwm as the new fella from Cwm Taff, I love it

Re: The biggest loser?
Peter....some validity to your point of view when compared to Eng 2007, but you miss another important point. That is that Wales currently are one of only four sides left in the competiton and South Africa, England and Ireland would love to still be involved. Wales' performances have been good and improving all the time and nothing should take away from that. If they lose tomorrow then yes it will take some of the gloss off, but for now the dream lives on.....
It is a results based business so let's wait for the tournament to conclude prior to final judgements. As an England fan I will cheer Wales on and hope to see a cracking game. Then as soon as it ends I need to rush to the Ealing U9s festival where my son is playing. Sunday I have the same format. RWC semis and then Ealing U11 festival. What a rugby weekend!
Enjoy.

My idea of success is beating what's in front of you and progressing as far as possible in the best tournament you could be a part of. It's easy to nitpick and turn a blind eye on some positives while putting more emphasis on negatives. Your reference of Samoa being "the fourth seeded team" in the group is all well and good aside from the fact that they eased past Fiji and gave SA just as torrid a time as they gave us. If pre-tournament rankings counted France wouldn't have lost to Tonga, England will have made it further than the QF's and so on.
What we've secured thus far is going down as one of the top four sides of the 2011 RWC. What we aim to secure next is going down as one of the top two.

Re: The biggest loser?
pws is quite a character as we can all see. Lets stop going backwards as to who won what, when, in the past. Lets pick on a date like October 8th, last weekend, and go from there shall we?
And if our rwc ends tomorrow , we can all start afresh for the 6 nations, lovely .

Re: The biggest loser?
Sad opening post, the 6 Nations is all about local pride, and we have a chance to go at it hammer and tongs there but in the World Cup is special and once every 4 years.
The English have far more in common with the Welsh than they do with the Australians and New Zealanders.

I don't understand the point of the post.
However, it's about the manner of defeat
If Wales go out tomorrow all guns blazing then I think people will see that Gat's is doing a good job.
If Wales go out playing like England then it'll be the biggest damp squib since Dampy the Squib trip and fell in the Taf

Either way Wales world cup isn't over even if we lose tomorrow, because we do have a play off game also, don't forget that
That's still a chance to test ourselves against New Zealand or Australia witch is special in itself.

Re: The biggest loser?
slartibartfast, I said this awhile ago, how you lose is important.
I can't see us losing through lack of 100% body on the line play, the only way is if we gift wrap it by giving France the ball and ANY chance of a SNIFF at a lead.
keep it tight, no offloads against Ireland remember.
BIGGSEST LOSER---- anyone who won't allow themselves to enjoy the game because it's not their team playing.

Re: The biggest loser?
THE biggest losers are those people who cannot accept that three of the best four sides are there on merit.
The fourth France were patchy in the pool stages,Well beaten by the All Blacks after there initial onslaught failed.
Against Tonga they just did`nt seem to be bothered just doing enough to qualify.
England seemed in two minds what game to play.kicking or running and did neither well.
Today should be a cracker, which could go either way France may have planned it this way all the time.

So you do undderstand the point of the post.
If wales go out with a bad defeat, and tehn lose the 3/4th playoff they will have ended the tournament with a pretty poor record, in spite of having progressed further than expected. The French even more so...they could easily end this tournemant on 4 defeats...reaching a semi in itself shouldnt be seen as a victory.
Despite what some people seem to think this wasnt an anti welsh rant, it says more about the people who cant help but read it that way despite that the initial post runs down englands acheivements.
It may be negative in its assesment but its realistic. Folk may also notice that as a Welsh qualified supporter Im behind the reds.
If its come to it do you expect 60,000 welshmen will turn up to watch a tv broadcast of the 3/4th place playoff? No theyll all be on the internett moaning about how james hook cost them the world cup and that gatland should be sacked.

Bump
1-3 against Tier one sides. Better than expected? Good enough?
To be fair though Wales look like they could beat any of those sides on their day.

After winning 4 and losing 3 (just as well they had Namibia in their group!) don't Wales now drop to 8th in the world?

Re: The biggest loser?
Yeah its a little odd .... but if you look at the rating gap theres nothing between Wales, Argentina, Ireland and England which isnt too "unfair" (France should be in that group too) as any could easily beat the other "on their day"

Re: The biggest loser?
Yeah, the top 4 of the 6Ns + France and Argentina are pretty much equal. So the ranking are about right as usual.
