Leeds have bid rejected for Welham
The Hull Daily Mail is reporting that Hull KR have rejected a bid from Leeds for centre Kris Welham . A source has told the Mail that Leeds have already made one official approach and despite Rhinos cheif executive Gary Hetherington indicating the Rhinos are willing to pay a transfer fee Rovers have told them Welham is not for sale .
Welham is in advanced negotiations with Hull KR over a new contract , and his agent Gary Wilkinson has stated Welhams desire to stay at Rovers .
Imo if Rovers have ambitions of improving they need to be keeping hold of the good home grown talent like Welham . But saying that money usually talks so if Leeds come back with a big offer it may test Hull KR's resolve .

If Leeds are really serious about him he will be playing for them next season, if he wants to.

It will test Rovers if Leeds do come back in with a large bid , but i think the fact Kris wants to stay gives us the advantage .

Leeds are a massive club and i wonder if the temptation to play for a massive club like Leeds might just swing it for them.

To be honest he would have a far better chance of winning something at Leeds .

A) Rovers have alot of money coming in from new sponsers this season.
B) He's will play more rugby at Rovers than at Leeds, which at this stage of his career he needs.
C) The Leeds fans i work with don't understand why they're going for him know, they feel there backs are fine it's more the forwards that they need.

I think Leeds see him as a possible long term replacement to Keith Senior , Ablett will probably go back into the pack .
Cant see us letting him go , at least i hope not .

Whilst i agree about that point, i would suggest that they are more likely to try and get him next year, when they have more pressing need once Webb leaves, and Jones Bishop goes to full back, espically as it looks like Senior is going back on a 1 year pay as you play deal. Like i said the Leeds fans think they have more pressing needs.
I also hope we don't let him go, which is why i think he may stay a year to see where Rovers are, espically now we have a new coach.

Re: Leeds have bid rejected for Welham
Leeds need to strengthen in the halves for me , not much cover if Maguire or Burrow dont perform .
Welham should stay and i think he will , he's a Hull lad and he seems to want to sign a new contract . The only thing that bothers me is if Leeds do put some decent money on the table how our board will look at cashing in on him .

If i was on the Rovers board i would offer him a 5 year contract.KingKenny7Heaven wrote:Leeds need to strengthen in the halves for me , not much cover if Maguire or Burrow dont perform .

Agree about the halfs, as i don't think Sinfield's a long term half back, and at the moment they seem to prefer using Burrow as the interchange hooker.
Welham is one of the players i think we need to build the team around. With Watts and Taylor playing more, And apparently Sandercock has a good reputation with developing youth, which is where we need to be heading in my opinion.

From what i can gather it's a 3 year plus optional extra year contract being discussed . So it would take him to the next franchise bid .

Hull Daily Mail ran a follow up story on Saturday in which Gary Hetherington is quoted as saying Leeds will not be making another bid for Welham because Rovers made it clear he is not for sale .
