red card
First topic message reminder :
am i allowed to say the tackle on shane was not a tackle, it was a shoulder charge and dangerous play.
i thought that sort of thing was a straight red.
am i allowed to say that?

Why?
Because France will get obliterated tomorrow. Mike.
Right, so this is the "Wales deserved to get through, despite losing" thingy. OK glad that's sorted.

I've always stuck up for refs - they do a tough, thankless job with little reward.

One of those types? You mean refs?

Cite him then, let the IRB work for their cash.

Re: red card
To me the challenge, which wasn't even penalised, was much more dangerous than that which resulted in a sending off the week before. SW flipped 360 and was only lucky not to have been seriously injured, if that doesn't convicne him to hang up his boots nothing will.

Refs?
No. Corporate speak, liberal, namby pamby, fence sitters.
It's the inconsistency that rips the heart out of rugby.
I've loved rugby for 30 years, during which Wales were consistently rubbish. This is nothing to do with Wales, I just wanted to see a great RWC.
And Rolland/the IRB/ Paddy O'Brien's flipchart/Blackberry/Powerpoint directive killed it.
We would have lost to the ABs.
But we would have given them a game.

It was a great hit from the Aus prop, same old whingers who can't admit when they've been beat fair and square.
Wales would have been destroyed if playing the AB's, at least France will put up half a fight.

Re: red card
Your all missing the point just like i said last week Shane Williams is fair game for foul play,
always has been, last week i said if that was Shane being tip tackled by a French back rower nothing would have been said.
By the way well played Australia you guys looked hungry today and well played Wales so proud of our lads on and off the pitch.

Re: red card
i was wrong on first viewing. Ma'afu's arms are clearly out for the charge down and shane takes to the air in an attempt to hurdle the tackle. Unfortunately his back foot leaves the ground as Ma'afu hits his front. Nothing to see here.

I've read this thread and I can't believe the amount of jealousy on it. He's been a thorn in all of your sides, but he's retiring. He won't be able to hurt you any more. Get a bit of grace will you.
I've also watched the game again and his skill in both tries would grace any, ANY team.

Re: red card
How exactly is Shane supposed to have jumped into that tackle? I have been critical of him on the rare occasion that he has before, but if you watch that clip in real time there is no way he would have had time to jump.
No Welshman in their right mind is begrudging the result, Wales didn't turn up for large parts of the game and Australia played some really nice rugby.
The problem here is the same as with the Warburton decision, there's no consistency in the refereeing of these potentially dangerous tackles that should be "cracked down on" according to most posters on here. And rightly so.

Glas, no doubting Shane's quality he has served Wales and I will be sad to see him depart the international scene. There was still nothing wrong with the challenge. Welsh people don't become like the Kiwis who still b!tch about that forward pass.

Re: red card
Thom, you're right, but that's not my compulsion. He got two high tackles today, unpenalised. However anything happens to McCaw and the whole of NZ is up in arms.
I played to a basic level. I often told refs that if they didn't look after my players they would look after themselves. You CAN NOT have that at international level.

sirBiggles;
I have watched this again and again and again and i just cant see anything in it. It honestly looks like he is going for the charge down, the whole area was messy to it was not an easy position for Shane. Credit to Shane Williams as he got up (after a while) dusted himself down and continued playing. That must have hurt like hell.

You know the bit in the Fellowship of the Ring when the cave troll is throwing hobbits about in Moria?
Well, that Shane incident looked like a bit they edited out. Lucky he was wearing his mithril shirt.

On a lighter note. The Red Card changed my life for ever. I was at the Millennium and got proposed to at half time. Down on one knee, ring, everything. He was going to wait till the final but thought Wales wouldn't make it.

Cheers Biggsy,
Hope to see you here for the six nations.
Can't help feeling we've blown our best chance ever of getting to a world cup final, or even winning it.
