Q&A with Robert Guerrero Empty Q&A with Robert Guerrero

Post by Fists of Fury Wed Oct 26, 2011 7:20 am

Evening fellas

I've been given the opportunity to interview Robert Guerrero with questions from the 606v2 members.

For those that don't know, Guerrero is currently recovering from an injury to his rotator cuff sustained during the build-up to his scheduled bout with Marcos Maidana, and was last seen in the ring dominating Michael Katsidis on his way to a shut-out win. The future is certainly bright for Guerrero, and he looked mightily impressive last time out. Hopefully we will see him back in action soon.

His story is certainly an interesting one. In 2007, his wife was diagnosed with leukaemia, putting his boxing career temporarily on hold to look after her, but she has since shown herself to be as great a fighter as her husband when recovering due to a bone marrow transplant.

If you could leave your questions in this thread, it'd be appreciated.

Thanks

Fantastic Fists, nice one.

After you overcome your injury who do you see as your next opponent?

Many people I have spoken to think you have the beating of Amir Khan, do you think this is possible or would you be unwilling to possibly have the travel up to Welterweight for this fight?

Do you intend to get negotiations with Maidana back on?

Who's the hardest puncher?

When you were fighting Katsidis did you have a moment where you thought "Is this guy made of stone?"

What weight class do you intend to campaign in and where do you see your best weight class being at the moment? It wasn't long ago you were a Featherweight and there is already talk of fights as high as Welterweight that's an awful big jump in weight for anyone.

Also how long is he expecting to be out for.

Amir Khan supposedly accused you of feigning injury and receiving step aside money to allow Maidana to become WBA Champ. Why do you think he made this outlandish statement? It seems pretty classless to make these allegations when a fellow athlete is going through a hard time in their career. Do you think he feels threatened by you?

You've said that you'd like to face Floyd Mayweather in the near future. What do you think you bring to the table that 42 others before you did not? How would you win this fight? What did you make of the PBF Ortiz ending?

It may sound like a bit of a cliche, but did the pain you knew your wife was going through mean that you saw any pain you would receive through boxing minor and irrelevant in the scheme of things - did this make you tougher?

How's the shoulder coming along? And around the time of it happening Amir Khan was quite vocal (i say vocal, but he appears to be using Twitter to slag off fighters in a big man style) about you being paid to step aside... What would you say to Khan and is that a fight you'd be interested in post Maidana (should he still want the fight when you've recovered etc).

If you ever fought Khan would you please clock him one when he raises his arms after getting nailed like Pacquiao does? I'd also accept knocking him out with you next punch after he goes running again.

Do you already have a set number of aims to achieve in the sport before calling it a day, i.e. who you want to fight, which titles you want to fight for and at what weights, or do you just take things fight by fight?

You've risen to world level, yet you have a full and lush head of hair. This isn't a sport for hippies, Rob, when are you gonna do the deed?

What first inspired you to walk into a boxing gym?

If you could drink yourself into an early grave alongside any 18th century poet, which one would it be?

When did you first think you could make it at world level?

Could you knock out a horse?

Could you knock out a man?

What five changes would you make to boxing to make it better for everyone?

If I already own a PS3, why should I buy a wii?

How scary do you find Marcos Maidana?

Who is your biggest sporting influence outside of boxing?

What do you think of Elie Seckbach, both as a writer, and as a man with the voice of a teenager?

What country were you born in pal?

Cool beard, no?

What is your father's wisest quote?

Who is the finest bald fighter you've faced?
Who is the finest shaghead you've faced?
who would win if they face each other?

Can life be validly fulfilled if it is limited to itself?

Which single fight you've been in taught you the most?

If I offered you a magic platypus that told you secrets about very very important people, in return for your hand speed, would you take it?

If you could have a five inch tall version of any celebrity who lived in your pocket who you fed cheerio crumbs and sang to sleep every evening, who would it be?

Which single fight you haven't been in taught you the most?

My sister said you said you'd call her back, then found out you'd given her a fake number. What up?

Well there are few in John blooody Wayne's list which make sense. If restricted to one, I'd go with the Platypus.

How comfortable do you feel at Lightweight? Would you consider fighting Rios?

What was your amateur career like?

I believe you are a southpaw, Graham Houston disagrees. What do you consider yourself?

You're of Mexican descent, of which there's obviously been many fantastic fighters from those shores. Has there been a particular fighter (Mexican or not) that you view as your hero?

If you weren't a boxer, what profession would you have gone down/have liked to have been in?

If you so wish you can create a thread in trash talk where you can reel off all the ludicrous questions you want.

If there was a Mexican version of Strictly Come Dancing would you appear on it and do you think you would be able to win?

What other contestants would you like to see on there with you?

Do you think Len would be capable of saying his trademark 'Seven' in a Mexican accent.

Would you prefer to appear on the US version?

If you were able to do either, without getting into trouble, would you prefer to kill Simon Cowell or Jeremy Kyle?
