Favourtie poster from 606
First topic message reminder :
Hi all,
As there is not much significant tennis activity going on at the moment and as per tenez this forum is going downhill, so I thought of posting this lighthearted post.
We all have (most of us) come from 606. This is the version 2 of 606. Pretty much everything similar but we cannot rate the posts here. I remember that CP, UE were jostling for the one star ratings.
I really liked Duggie from 606, initially I had a tiff with him but later I realised that he was a very sound and logical poster. I too had mu shares of arguments and discord on 606 but it was fun. Although tenez did do a post on 606 pseudo but the new members are not aware of it. If the new members who are not using the same pseudo from 606, they can also take this opportunity to let us know about their past
Share your thoughts please. Long live the 606 community.!

Something happened to duggie during a prolonged sabbatical I took from 606. Before that he has really sensible, Federer leaning but very much a peacemaker overall. When I came back he'd gone a bit rabid and was throwing his body in front of anyone who criticised Nadal. I thought perhaps he'd been bitten by Lydian or someone but maybe he just spent too long with Wooffie and the Rafalitos.
A sad loss.

Yeah I noticed that too, duggie became hyper-critical of every Fed handshake and utterance and became, as you say, rabidly pro everything Rafa from time delays to armani underwear picking.
I did wonder if everything wasn't quite right - once or twice he alluded to health issues and doctor's visits and I hope his increasing irritability wasn't the result of illness. He was a brilliant poster, and I don't think it is exaggeration to say that he was some of the life blood of 606, online for the majority of the day. He had so many cyber friends and it was such a big part of his day that it seems very strange that he should just disappear so suddenly.
Hope very much that all is okay with him.
On another subject - hi to Marcus - presume you are the legendary MarcusisinKensington / MarcuswasinKensingtonbutisnowinNYC / DelPotro eats goats for breakfast. Fact and of course JuanMarcusdelPoirot - I loved your nom de plumes, a whole little story in themselves as well as your posts and the ongoing flirtation with Wooffie! You started some brilliant andy moaner posts at one time too I seem to remember - hope you're going to stick around, or at least visit every so often?

Re: Favourtie poster from 606
Hello time please.
Yes it is me. I wouldn't quite go so far as to say legend status, but great will do for now.
I retired from forums just before 606 closed due to work commitments, and having a distinct lack of spare time and inclination due to Mrs Marcus giving birth, but things have calmed down a bit now. I started back on here on the golf forums, but have now decided to have a look at the tennis forums too. I don't know how long I'll stay for, but I shall pop up every so often just to make sure that you don't miss me too much.
Salutations!

Re: Favourtie poster from 606
Well this reminiscing thread has brought me out of v2 retirement, I'm not going to get wound up on here any longer (it also conflicted with a particularly stressful work phase that had me catching planes every 5 mins). Anyway, duggietoo as far as I'm aware hasnt posted on any forum since Feb 11. I wonder if he had to stop posting
I know Duggie got very tired of the anti-Nadal wumming on 606 but his mooted move towards Nadal (not sure about that) had nothing to do with me thanks very much BB! I think Duggie had his own mind anyway, he was long enough in the tooth to make his own judgements on things.
Looking back I was on 606 for over 5 years (shame all our threads/articles are lost). I always enjoyed reading the satirically well written posts from AIR, Impartial, etc, as many others has others have also stated. Towards the end of 606 it became overran by 2nd class WUMs tbh. I do remember alot of ding-dongs between maximus and TheOpinion (what happened to him anyway...?). Also remember staunchly pro-Nadal stephanerational - did he become unbiased educator? I think a few people on 606 had multi IDs too. And of course we all remember nameless. I used to enjoy balanced (yes, balanced) discussions with niecie and debsonthesofa (both on MTL now) about Federer, Nadal, etc.

One thing to consider here lk is that people have many fond memories of fierce adversaries on 606, which was a far more combative environment than here.
I like 606v2 but Admin reallly need to trust people to let rip a bit - sometimes it'll get a bit excited but look at this thread - even for me the people I am writing about in favourable terms are Impartial Lion, Wise_Analyst and the like - people I spent hours in fierce debate with.

Re: Favourtie poster from 606
I think that is a fair reflection of things BB.
I think it doesn't hurt either to let rip. Some people don't like 'fierce' debates, I tend to feel for them if they are launched into. If a poster does post something utterly 'ridiculous' then for me they deserve a kicking for it.
606 went to pot when WUM's took over the place and it got beyond a joke. I think this site and forum in general manages itself well. I think people keep a perspective and there is a much more mutual respect amongst posters, something that lacked in 606 because of the frustration of the most retarded articles I have seen written.

Re: Favourtie poster from 606
I was not on 606 during the days of cocteau, impartial, fedcyclops and tetratyger but it seems that all were the account of the same guy who was hellbent on annoying fed posters. It is hilarious to see as they kept on congratulating and saluting each other.
TBF I have done my share of wumming too, considering that I am a staunch anti nadal poster. I think I have changed a wee bit with the time but to date nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing Nadal get beaten. Being a fedfan I could never come to the terms that a baseliner kept beating him.

Totally agree. I think it's a case if you give it you have to take it, but non-players should be off limits. I never argue forcefully with someone I don't think plays the same game.

As someone who admires brilliant writing, I have to say maineventlads for the sheer beauty of their prose. Although these posters' articles obviously led many to question their mental states, it was still a joy to read those contributions for their literary merit.

The OP is right.. with a quick glance I have seen that this forum is a very very meek shadow of the 606 forum. Although it was brimming with wums and trolls, knowledgeable members such as Unbiased_Educator, Jewell_Of_East, Catalan Power amongst others were constantly educating and enriching the minds of those fortunate enough to read their quite brilliant, mind-blowing posts.
Oh where are those great heroes now? Where do the mighty wonder?..
Oh what I would give to see just one of those warriors grace this message board again

I don't doubt that they are no longer internet commenting. I only lament their absence which has resulted in tennis forums like these..devoid of any soul and any intellectual tennis debate.
Such knowledge..such insight..such wit and spirit...It warms the heart just thinking about some of their comments and posts

Shrug
They've obviously moved on with their lives
Good for them if they have. Obsessions with legacies and goat debates are not the characteristics of a healthy individual
They probably found real life friends to enjoy tennis with
Wish I had learnt from them years ago I was I think 19 when this forum started. I'm 27 now and to old for this
Maybe you should consider moving on too...

On my part I have often wondered whatever happened to the boromirs? There was boromir1, then boromir2 when boromir1 was banned. When boromir2 was banned, boromir3 made an appearance. This repeated itself all the way through to boromir6. But then boromir6 just stopped posting all of a sudden. No-one knew what happened to him. Of course, there were several theories - such as him reaching puberty, or him finding himself a girlfriend or him having to go on the run. But who really knows for sure? Anyway let's not dwell on the past.boromir7 wrote:The OP is right.. with a quick glance I have seen that this forum is a very very meek shadow of the 606 forum. Okayy..again I'm not doubting they are no longer here, if it's a good thing for them personally or not, I'm just lamenting their absence which deprives many of biblical level tennis enlightenment.
Your right that getting too sucked in to trying to convince yourself that federer is the greatest of all time (for example) on tennis forums is not healthy. If you can't find a balance you shouldn't be here, but it's strange your suggesting to somebody who has posted a couple of times in five years to move on but not to yourself??? Bizarre...

I'm not sure if this was meant to be funny or not but there has only been a boromir7. If there was another boromir (which I've never heard of) they were unconnected to me.

What I don't get is why you're here after many years. You're not interested in the tennis clearly
In fact you only seem interested in having a go at julius for the forum being quiet. Not his fault I'll tell you that.
If you've an axe to grind with either the forum or its people after all this time... then yeah you do need to move on
