Re: Anybody give marquez a prayer???
I think he's got a lot more left than people think...however, think he'll lose.
Re: Anybody give marquez a prayer???
hes got a style to trouble him and he could have enough power to hold off manny onslaughts but not enough to stop him.
like fists said hes got a fair bit left and looks to have got himself into the best shape possible.
also one other thing thats probably the most important he believes he can...
still think hes gonna get beat up though...
be a shame if he pulls off the upset and only 10 people in britain saw it live...

Alex - when people say they wont buy ppv - they probably mean they will still watch it on a little monitor screen with little quality for free rather than pay for it and enjoy it properly.
Re: Anybody give marquez a prayer???
I think Marquez will be well beaten in this fight to be honest, and I wouldn't rule out him being stopped for the first time, either. Good fight though it was, the Katsidis scrap convinced me more than ever that Marquez isn't the hardest to find these days, and come fight night Pacquiao will be considerably bigger / stronger than him. I think it'll be pretty much one-way traffic - would like to see Marquez still there at the final bell, but think Pacquiao may just dazzle him to a TKO in the championship rounds.

Not a cats chance in hell personally.
He went life and death with an inferior, lighter punching Manny @ SFW etc
He's been dropped/wobbled by lightweights.
Looked awful in his one fight at welterweight
Trust me on this one, he doesn't last past the 6th. And personally i think he has him out of there inside 3.
It's a lightweight vs a big punching welterweight. Marquez hasn't moved up because his body has plateaud in terms of his optimal weight class, the same for Manny's.
It's going to be a massacre, he goes down early and won't be getting up this time. And if he does survive it's because he goes into survival mode, something which i don't think you'll see from someone who epitomises the warrior spirit.
Again, LW vs WW - That is a pretty black and white statement. Manny has been knocking out welterweights. Marquez has had his struggles against lightweights.
If Marquez wins i'll streak through my town centre naked

I think I agree with Coxy on this one..
Marquez took a hammering off Floyd......and Katsidis isn't really world class for me and he had his moments..
Manny ko8 if not sooner.

Coxy is a one off for sure...
Maybe you can explain why you think Marquez has anything left....
Katsidis owning in his last fight... showed up his lack of real talent..

Re: Anybody give marquez a prayer???
I don't see Marquez winning but he might last the distance. Manny didn't look that dynamic against Mosley in his last fight. I figured it was because his opponent wasn't just some slow, lumbering opponent walking in like Clottey and Margarito. Mosley had a bit of ring smarts left and he went the full 12. Marquez I'm sure has some ring smarts and I think that'll help him to hear the final bell.
I'd love to see Marquez win.

Mosley was bigger than Marquez as was Marg and Cotto..see Manny's shots hurting Juan more....and he isn't the same guy..

because he won the fights and looked good in doing so and carries decent speed and stamina.
hes not at 100% but he still has something left to offer but not enough for pacqiaou

Yes, I know Mosley, Clottey and Margarito are bigger guys. But I think his boxing brain and defense are better than Clottey's and Margarito's which may be enough for him to last the distance.

i think Manny might carry him for a while, and although i dont think Marquez will go into survival mode, i think he will be very cautious and not risk embarassment, and look to counter punch all night. could go to points or maybe a late ko for manny if he really wants it

i agree truss. hes a typical proud mexican and he always tries to find a way to win. even against floyd where it was embarassing he kept trying things and didnt give up.
but get a feeling due to this he may wind up being stopped this time.

im sure he comes to win, i just think he will realise his best shot at that is to make it a cagey affair by pot shotting at manny and making him think. i dont think this will be over early

Totally agree Truss, and Manny's camp will have done there homework, fight a Marquez who comes off a battering by Mayweather and a war with Kastidas, at a higher weight where Manny has carried his power and Marquez looks a bit uncomfortable at, very shrewd.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:Manny's pressure and workrate will be Marquez biggest problem......

Manny takes on an older past it Mosely after a Mayweather pasting, sheer coincidence or clever management.

i think manny will be out to make a statement after the mosley fight and will be giving it everything to get the KO, marqez will be lucky to see the final bell, as much as i would love marquez to win though as think he should be one up going into the third fight.

Re: Anybody give marquez a prayer???
Does Manny get any credit if he becomes the first man to stop Marquez?
Money has to be on Manny and I'm with the guys above, Marquez will definitely come to fight. I can't see him looking to survive unless he's taking a real pasting like nothing he's dealt with before, he's been asking for this fight ever since number 2.

Cotto shot, Margarito shot, Barrera shot, Hatton shot.
You speak a lot of codswallop, one defeat and you're not shot !
glad you weren't around in the 30s, You would've had Louis as shot after Schmeling.
Complete bore

She'll probably be next on Manny's list and that'll be catchweight too.. no doubt!!!

Louis didn't take a 12 round beating from Schmeling, like Marquez did against Mayweather totally different scenario.tcribb wrote:Thought he looked shot against and after Floyd

Nobodies slating mannys quality or not giving him credit just showing the comparisons, 3 fighters Hatton, Mosely ,Marquez all battered by Mayweather and all now Manny opponents just stating the facts.
I couldn't give a toss what country either fighter comes from the above is a statement of fact

could add de la hoya onto the list though he didnt really take a beating from floyd but he was shot when he fought manny, which was strangely the coming out party to the world that he was the best.

Re: Anybody give marquez a prayer???
Marquez is 38 years old and has never been stopped in his career. He's been in the ring with Manny two times before and wasn't stopped! So I think it's a big statement by some to say he's going to get blown away or beaten by a TKO.
Manny isn't looking as ferocious as he once was before going into congress. I think Manny will win the fight purely down to work rate but Marquez has the superior boxing brain (albeit not the athleticism of Pacquiao) to survive the fight and be competitive.
Manny is naturally 145lbs (given he only came into the ring at that weight vs Margarito), and I'd say Marquez is naturally around 140lbs come fight night at LW, so there shouldn't be much given away in terms of weight differentials.

Re: Anybody give marquez a prayer???
I'm torn.
The skeptic in me says that manny wins easily, as these tend to be the onyl conditions on which he accepts a fight these days.
However, as well all know styles make fights. And stylisitcall JMM has proven to be a tough nut to crack for manny.
I think what is interesting is what JMM trainer said about manny being easier to predict.
I honestly think if the manny that fought mosely shows up it will be a lot closer than people think.
But do I want want marquez to win?? Yes. and No.
I want floyd to fight manny, and a marquez win undoubtedly scuppers this.
But that to one side, I would love marquez to win, as to my mind he shuold already be 2-0 against manny.

Agree he's got no chance. Though I expect him to have a go in the first few rounds, then go into a shell and try to survive over the remaining rounds ala Mosley/Clottey.
Manny to win UD close to a 12 round shutout.

We could say the same for Floyd. I think the problem for the two of them is they are so far ahead of the competition around their weight class that any fighter they face (bar each other) seems like a walk in the park for them.
