The Ultimate Tennis Player!
I always find it interesting to find out what a person's personal favourite shot in the game is or perhaps something that is iconic to a certain player.
For example the federer forehand, gasquet backhand, Roddick serve etc.
So my question to you is if you could make a player that combined all the best shots in the game for one person.
I would go for:
Forehand - Federer
Backhand - Gasquet (SH) Nalbandian (DH)
Serve - Karlovic
Volley - Lopez
Speed - Monfils
Defence - Novak
Mental strength - Rafa
Just curious what you guys think. Over to you who would make up you're tennis cyborg!?!

Re: The Ultimate Tennis Player!
I would probably want to break it down further than that and have aspects of different players within each shot. For example I would probably go with what you say on fh and bh but incorporate Murray's running passing shot (I love it) in there. Knowing my luck, I would put too many different confilicting styles into my cyborg and it would fall over its own feet before it even got to the court

LK's all time killing machine tennis Cyborg:
Forehand - Federer
Backhand - Agassi
Serve - Sampras
Volley - Borg
Net Play - Becker
Speed - Nadal
Defence - Edberg
Mental Strength - Connors
I think that covers it.

Re: The Ultimate Tennis Player!
You changed your view on the FH LK?
Pretty similar to luv
I would go for:
Forehand - Federer
Backhand - Federer or Kholi (SH) Nalbandian (DH) (Gasquet takes it too far back)
Serve - Karlovic
Volley - Stepanek/Federer
Speed - Monfils
Defence - Novak (especially the defense turning into attack)
Mental strength - Novak/Federer
Stamina - Nadal

It was a toss up of all time. See I think Nadal's FH would struggle on say the grass in the 90's. Because mine was all time, I think Federer's would stand up in the test of time ahead of Nadal's.

Re: The Ultimate Tennis Player!
Would have to disagree, had Federer not shanked in so many slam finals against him, his record would look less stellar pre 2011. How many times has Nadal come back to win slam matches from match points down to Federer?Mental strength - Rafa

Re: The Ultimate Tennis Player!
The reason I also did not pick nadal for mental strength is that in his case, his mental strength is too much linked to his physique. If physically challenged, is mental is actually pretty poor.
In comparison when Djoko had his back problem in that USO final, he was still showing amazing resilience.
The reason I also picked Federer is that against Djokovic he is often showing a stronger mental side than Djoko himself. PLus all his SLam wins in a row despite the heaviest pressure.

Re: The Ultimate Tennis Player!
Volley - McEnroe.
I simply cannot understand any other proposals in that category.

Re: The Ultimate Tennis Player!
Why mix and match when we already have a Perfect Player

McEnroe himself woudl actually pick Edberg.
I woudl have picked Edberg too but again, on those modern spinny balls, I am not sure how good he woudl have been.
Look at McEnroe...excellent at half volleys but as soon as the ball came back a bit harder with the younger generation, he coudl not control them as well.
So not as straight forward.

Re: The Ultimate Tennis Player!
Today's game then it would be as followed
Forehand - Nadal (because the conds make it more effective)
Backhand - Djokovic
Serve - Isner
Volley - Federer
Net Play - Stepanek
Speed - Nadal
Defence - Djokovic
Mental Strength - Federer
I think the Isner Kick Serve is unplayable.
Federer for mental strength because it is only of late that he has shown signs of mental fragility. Djokovic has only just this started not to lose focus during big matches and Nadal beats himself if he finds 'routine' not going his way

I think as crazy as it sounds McEnroe when playing Borg and Connors played much better volleys because of how well they could play volleys.
Really and truthfully if you put the 3 in that category you would find yourself changing it every day.
