whats your view of Dr Gwyn Jones
Dr Gwyn Jones
Amser symyd mlaen.
Time to move on. Overly critical, negative rather than objective, drooling over foreign players, Kahn Fotouloiui (I know) MOTM is the final straw. Goodbye.
That's my view anyhow, what do you think

Re: Dr Gwyn Jones
I could not believe his choice of MOTM. He was the worst Ospreys player on the pitch.
He is usually anti Ospreys so cant understand this. I thought George North was the best player on the pitch by a country mile 20mins or not.
If Rhys webb doesnt get a start next week then what the hell are we doing this for !!

He's anti Scarlets as well though. He is pro Blues, pro SH, pro running, anti kicking. I think he had a massive brain fart for the MOTM. For me Stephen Jones had a yellow card and missed kicks, but if Priestland was playing we'd have been slaughtered. Tipuric was clearly the Ospreys best player. Williams o'r North could gave had it for their cameos. In fact I'd gave given it to Shane for lighting up the stadium with his chip and chace and kick ahead.

Re: Dr Gwyn Jones
I never really rated him to be honest. He was third choice Llanelli openside when Kevin Bowring picked him from nowhere to be a Welsh international in 1996, he didnt play too badly to be fair though.
But because of his horrific career ending injury and the fact that he can speak Welsh he is given a role in Welsh rugby. I don't really rate him as a pundit though I'm afraid.

He said Rolland had no empathy for the players when Warburton was red carded Unless it's an overpaid, underachieving, SH journeyman he has even less!

How do you consider him to be anti Scarlets then ? If anything he was always anti Ospreys and any criticism he had of the Ospreys was always justified in my opinion. I've always liked Dr Gwyn and enjoy his occasional analysis on Scrum V. He speaks his mind and some fans get upset if he happens to say a bad word against Stephen Jones (who is on borrowed time) James Hook and the like.

Re: Dr Gwyn Jones
To be fair he has a bad word for everybody, except the Blues and overpaid SH journeymen. And of course he never made a mistake in his career. I will always support S4C and Welsh language coverage, but I don't have to accept second rate punditry. His spoken Welsh is also terrible. It is he who will be on borrowed time when Stephen Jones and Shane retire.

His spoken Welsh isn't that bad Glas, I don't think. I always understand him anyway!

Re: Dr Gwyn Jones
Don't agree with his MOTM choice, but usually I find him OK. On the favouring teams thing...does S4C generally favour the Blues because they pay to advertise on their channel - they showed the Blues advert for Heineken Cup match tickets at the CCS twice during HT - just a thought...

Yes, and I think the choice of music being very similar to Y Clwb Rygbi's title track is very coincidental

Last year the Scarlets were advertising season tickets on S4C so I wouldn't read too much into that. I always thought S4C favoured the Scarlets. In fact doesn't S4C stand for Scarlets Pedwar Cymru ?

I like the good Doctor. He's articulate. He writes well. He knows his stuff.
He's hopelessly biased towards the Blues, but I can forgive him that.

Re: Dr Gwyn Jones
On the subject of S4C presenters. Why do they insist on getting Dot to interview players standing up? Every player is about two foot taller than her and it just looks like they're taking the pi55. They don't even provide her with a box to stand on.

Re: Dr Gwyn Jones
I don't have an issue with her, it's the producers. Surely they could get her to interview the player seated, or just keep her out of shot if they must do interviews standing up? As a last resort they could give her a set of steps to stand on!
All of this unnecessary with Shane Williams of course...

You're heightist, Cari, admit it.
Short@rses need to stand up for themselves. You can't always tell when they have stood up, but that's not the point.

Re: Dr Gwyn Jones
Dr Gwyn is starting to grow on me (a bit like that fungus between my toes!) and I've even found myself agreeing with him on a couple of occasions (yes, literally twice). His MOTM award was a little strange though.
Have to admit that if I had a choice between Dr Gwyn and Brynmor I'd go for Dr Gwyn. I know he's negative but Brynmor is depressing. If they were both commentating on a game I'd put it on mute, I dont want to risk severe depression.

Lucky - OK maybe I am. Being a woman of 5'9 and a bit you can't blame me....only because the manufacturers of women's clothes think all women are 5'2 and petite...

Re: Dr Gwyn Jones
Subs, as a reaction to the overly positive Grav when S4C started televising rugby, they directed objectivity. I used to think Ike Bach was the best commentator there was, but now he's turned into a spiteful Poopie. My concern is that they will do some focus groups who will call for less negativity and we'll have Chris Needs and Stifyn Parry camping the commentary up with Eleri Sion in the studio talking about the players man sausage.

Re: Dr Gwyn Jones
Glas, concerning negativity, surely the standard of rugby on show has something to do with it? It's hard to enthuse about yet another butchered overlap.
But enough about the Scarlets...

No. If it's the Blues he perks up, or a SH side or players.

I suppose the main thing that prevents me being too tough on Dr Gwyn is that there are so many worse pundits.

Emyr Lewis is really good. He knows his stuff and he's quite understated, he doesn't get carried away with himself.
Derwyn Jones is adequate.

Looking at the vote, there's a hung parliament in the offing.
I'm as ever, I'm available to form a coalition with any party that wishes to provide the highest advantageous pecuniary advantage. Wot with my deep knowledge of Welsh rugby an' that.

Agree that Emyr Lewis is good. Cant accept Derwyn as he is the agent for half the players and cant really criticise his own players. Still better than Gwyn and Brynmor though.
