How would you like the Rugby Union board to be categorised?
Rugby Union board design
Hi guys,
Just wanted to start a thread where the members of this section can discuss what they would like from this subsection.
We initially had a few people ask for all of the teams to be included as well as subsections for each competition.
We have now had a few asking for it all to be removed!
We dont mind changing stuff to suit but obviously we would like for you all to come to some agreement between yourselves.
The options are that we can categorise as is (ie with magners league/ international etc). From there, we could get rid of the further subsections (ie the clubs/ countries).
Alternatively, we could get rid of all the subsections and leave the board as one section (ie all the tournaments and club threads would just be on one page (although I think this would be messy and hard to navigate).
Another option is to rename the subsections and get rid of some.
so for example you could have:
Internationals
Club Games
Polls
General
Whatever you want to do, please let the admin team know.
Final thing - for those who didnt know, there is a boxing admin in place at the moment (linebreaker) but shold things pick up as we expect, we will look to add further mods.
Cheers

I always liked the 1-5 threading rater on the beeb 606, can we add something similar...?
As for general, nothing major, but I think International and 6Nations is a little confusion especially as there may not be any of antipodean colleagues on here... Perhaps just leave it at competion level...
6Nations,
trinations,
autumn internationals
the only question is what to do with friendlies... but perhaps that could be added in the RWC thread under pre-comp friendlies...
agree with what you say about keeping the pages tidy though,

We're a fickle bunch ey! :run1:
The options are that we can categorise as is (ie with magners league/ international etc). From there, we could get rid of the further subsections (ie the clubs/ countries).
I think that's the best thing to do really - it would make the place look a lot busier and encourage more banter between teams (not WUMming mind) and develop more of a community.
To be honest, I was never a fan of the star thing on 606 - not fussed with that really
Should say as well - keep up the good work guys, especially the willingness to work with people! And ask us plebs what we like!

Removing the sub sectioning would be good - Like on Bbc606 where you can see all the articles published on the Union board and then sub divide them afterwards.

No category at all. I just had to click on "Rugby Union - Magners League - Aironi - [topic name]" just to post. That's too much drilling down just for a quick note.
Rugby Union... that's it. One big melting pot.

I think for now the idea of 'great big melting pot' is a good one, especially as many haven't moved over yet and it could help make the community look more active.
Any feedback on getting this done?

Re: Rugby Union board design
I wouldn't mind some of the sub-catagories being taken out. Instead of going into Magners and then having lots of catagories for all the teams, could it just be left as 'Magners League'. That was we could discuss about all the teams a lot more easily and it will look a lot busier. It's a bit of a bother having to jump between two catagories for example if there is a match between Scarlets v Blues. It would be nice for everyone to view it all in one place

I'm with rugbydreamer, I think there are at the mo a few too many subsections. You don't need a section for each club (or province), maybe just one premiership section, one magners league section, one for the top 14,etc.

What about a section for each country? The sections could then include all discussions to do with clubs from that country and international team stuff too.

A poll has been added for you all to make a decision on the board layout. This will close at 12:00 on Monday and we will take the necessary action (if any) from there.

Re: Rugby Union board design
I like the option of being able to view all topics by "most recently commented" - that's how I read articles on old 606. I can see that some people might prefer being able to filter though

Re: Rugby Union board design
I think one board per competition is sufficient. When this site really gets a lot of people in, it might get a bit much having (for example) Welsh international and club topics all under the same banner.

Re: Rugby Union board design
If it's a Magners League weekend, I'm interested in writing about Ulster and reading about Ulster but I'm also interested in seeing other clubs fans perspective. Having a Magners League board allows for that.
Similar with Six Nations, World Cup, TriNations, Grassroots etc.
I think the best thing about having a board per competition is that it wi
ll promote interaction between fans of different teams. If you want to just talk about your team and nothing else there are loads of different forums that are dedicated to one team, some of them quite active and fast moving.
I want a board where I can get to chat to fans from all over.

Well said Notch. I agree completely. Chatting amongst just fans of your own team doesn't really appeal

I think a section per competition is the way forward, as long as there's still a general rugby section.

Mickado, I should have been clearer - the general section will stay where it is whatever option is chosen!

I agree with what seems to be the prevailing sentiment here, one board per competition sounds good

Re: Rugby Union board design
One nice thing about 606 was (no, not the moderators) the ability to filter.
Any subsectioning will be rigid which is unweildy. Compared to the way it works on 606, if I have an interest in Leinster, it doesn't matter what competition. Equally on a Heineken Cup weekend, I'm interested in the competition as a whole, not necessarily a single team. We will all have different reasons for interest in a topic, and that interest will change depending on the time of year.
This is actually a hard problem. I'm beginning to appreciate the 606 search engine way.
In general, though, the front page for the rugby board wasn't bombarded by new topics every few seconds on 606 (compared to the football board, which really needed more granular searches) so it really doesn't need subsections.
On 6N weekends we'll all be talking 6N. Ditto Heineken weekends. And every so often we'll be talking about Gavin Hensons wonderfullness, or lack of. Whichever.

Re: Rugby Union board design
I think having a Board for each League, Magners League, Premiership, S15 and internationals is the way to go, perhaps a world cup and a 6N board would be advisable too.

Re: Rugby Union board design
Greybeard, the system on 606 was really good for that - but not one that we are able to implement due to how complex it is. Hopefully the decision reached will allow us to grow.
Rugger, they would be covered by International whilst they're not on - but we can set new ones in the build up and during an event if there is a demand!

Re: Rugby Union board design
No worries Enforcer, I was mostly thinking aloud to myself :-)
All new things take getting used to, I'm sure once I'm used to whatever layout is chosen I'll have forgotten all about the sepia days of 606

The forums have now been updated to remove the teams. All existing posts have been transferred so no comments have been lost, they are just all together now.
