Spelling rage
Do you get spelling and grammar rage?
For instance if I see a spelling error in one of my posts, I have to edit it because it drives me nuts. For big posts I often copy+paste into word first!
Do you also get text messages and get peed off over the grammar? Big pet hate for me (even though I do it a lot) is "your" being used instead of "you're" or "you'll".

Re: Spelling rage
I do get spelling rage.
I'm not the greatest typer, so I make more mistakes than I should, but my actual spelling ability isn't that bad.
My main pet hate is "loose" instead of "lose"

Re: Spelling rage
I do, but it depends who's doing it and in what context. For instance, I get irritated when our manager sends out poorly written emails. It's annoying and embarrassing sometimes, when you think they should have a high standard of education.
Certain mistakes get me - like saying "pacific" instead of "specific". As for text speak, it irks me when people use it in emails. There's no need.

Not necessarily down to a poor standard of education. It could just be they are pushed for time and type quickly, then don't bother to check their spelling (or just lazy). Happens to me now and again. I see plenty of emails with poor grammar, spelling and punctuation at work...mostly from people who I know have degrees.
That said I do get annoyed when people use text speak anywhere other than in text messages.

Re: Spelling rage
I don't mind people who make the odd mistake because they're rushing, it's my Manager that gives me the spelling rage. Thinks he's so high and bloody mighty but can't even tell the difference between there, their and they're, to and too (add anything remotely challenging to a class of 11 year olds).

Yes, I have to edit any mistakes I find on my own posts, even if I don't notice them until much later and the thread has moved on. I'm not great at spelling but there is no excuse with spell checkers being pretty much standard. My own mistakes tend to be more where I've missed words as I'm typing fast at work than actual spelling mistakes. I don't read longer posts where the poster hasn't used paragraphs either.
I hate it when people use abbreviations such as the letter U instead of you - that is justifiable homicide as far as I'm concerned. I'm the person who's text messages and emails are written in full English, even if it takes me an age to send them.
Agree with JPX, incorrect usage of there & their wind me up as well, along with weather and whether. Also, don't get me started on lol, someone may get hurt.

That will teach me to rush posts whilst at work, although in the context of the thread I will refrain from editing it this time!Davie wrote:B91212 wrote:I'm the person who's text messages and emails are written in full English, even if it takes me an age to send them.

You can wear the finest suit money can buy, but still have no idea how to use an apostrophe.

Re: Spelling rage
I get terrible spelling rage, at work and at home. I drive my Mrs. potty because i point out every mistake when she's looking at her favourite social network website.
My boss is also awful for spelling and typing errors but i never say anything even though a major rage is building inside of me.

My other (some would say better) half never uses any sort of punctuation in her texts. It drives me bloody insane - just one looooonnnnng sentence mashed together.

To be fair, unless you're familiar with the band, its a very easy one to get wrong...as are other unusual band names.
Though if you are familiar / are a fan, then shame on you!

Re: Spelling rage
Well, I spelt it correctly a few weeks ago... then got it wrong when you spotted it.
Not really a huge fan of them but have known about them for a very long time.
Not a big deal really. These things happen.
