Glasgow getting a new Managing Director
Taken from the Warriors website
Seems to have the credentials for the position. Lets hope he can make an impact.
Scottish Rugby’s Chief Executive has today unveiled initial changes which are designed to bring success, on and off the pitch, to the professional game.
With Kenny Baillie due to step down as Glasgow Warriors Chief Executive in the coming weeks, Mark Dodson, Scottish Rugby Chief Executive, has announced that Nathan Bombrys will move from his role as Head of Commercial at Scottish Rugby to Managing Director of the Warriors.
Nathan will have responsibility for the Glasgow pro-team’s budget management, commercial and match-day operations and oversee the move, ahead of next season, to their new permanent home at Scotstoun. He will be aided by a new Business Development Manager and the club will also benefit from a full time Marketing Manager and a new Business Support Manager. These new roles will help to maximise the potential for Glasgow Warriors.
Mark Dodson said: “This is an exciting time for Scottish Rugby and we want to give the professional teams in Glasgow and Edinburgh every opportunity to compete at the highest reaches of the game. By expanding their resources, both on the field and behind the scenes, we believe we can compete with the biggest names in the sport and bring the success that the supporters are desperate to see.
“There is a real buzz around the Warriors set-up at the moment and it’s a great opportunity for Nathan to be part of that.
“I would personally like to thank Kenny Baillie for his dedication to Glasgow Warriors and wish him all the very best for the new start he is planning in London.”
Nathan Bombrys' move to Glasgow means an opportunity to reshuffle a number of departments within Scottish Rugby. The Commercial department will become the responsibility of Dominic McKay, the Director of Communications and Public Affairs.
Mark Dodson has also taken this opportunity to move the Marketing department and Ticketing department, previously under the auspices of the Financial Director and the CEO respectively, to the Communications and Public Affairs department in the interim.
The changes mean supporters will remain the focus of Scottish Rugby.
Mark Dodson said: “The changes I’m announcing are a statement of intent about the future of the game in Scotland. The first few steps we’ve announced today are hopefully just the beginning of what will be an exciting few years for us and all of Scotland’s rugby fans.”
NATHAN BOMBRYS
Nathan Bombrys joined Scottish Rugby in January 2011 as Head of Commercial. He was previously Commercial and Marketing Director at the Aviva Premiership club, Sale Sharks, where he oversaw a significant growth in commercial revenue over the previous seven years.
Nathan studied in New York where he was captain of his university rugby club and played rugby for seventeen years. He is also a level 1 referee.
He has previously worked in both Edinburgh and Glasgow in marketing and sponsorship consultancy.
Seems to have the credentials for the position. Lets hope he can make an impact.

Mmmmmmmmmmm
Edinburgh and Glasgow rugby or just the cities?
If the former then he obviously didn't do much.

Re: Glasgow getting a new Managing Director
I had thought that Sale Sharks hadn't been a great success in terms of commercial revenue over the last 7 years, and that Kennedy was pretty much propping up the club as the fan numbers had not really moved on in recent years???
I'm delighted that they're being pro-active about all this stuff, just hope he's the right man.

No idea about the new bloke, but the structure being put in place seems to put much greater emphasis on Glasgow developing it's own commercial side, rather than relying on the "support" of Murrayfield. I wonder if Edinburgh will see something similar.
Also the reorganisation of marketing & ticketing at Murrayfield itself seems to make sense.

Re: Glasgow getting a new Managing Director
Surely to Oprah even HAVING a BD manager represents something of an advance?
Say what you want about Sale, but their marketing is slick as anything and their clothing lines are well presented.
If he starts by getting rid of the Glasgow Warriors club logo that looks like it's been sketched by an angry 12 year old after too many M&Ms, then he'll be worth his salary for that alone.

Re: Glasgow getting a new Managing Director
I think it says it all about the previous Regimes at the SRU that our Pro teams are now only getting their own dedicated Marketing teams, 10 years too late, but welcome none the less.
As has been said can't comment on the individuals as I don't know enough about them. But the fact we have the structure you would expect at any club now in place has to be positive.
I assume similar changes will be made at Edinburgh.

They should have hired the mastermind behind the "Compare the Meerkat" campaign.
It'll be interesting to see how this pans out over the next 12 months. These individuals are going to be quite shocked I think to see just how little has been done in the past.

Yes, I can see Lineen directing them to a bare room in the basement of Firhill with a threadbare carpet, one exposed lightbulb, a small scraggy kitten with the runs meowing pathetically and an Ikea table with an A4 folder with three sheets of paper in it.
"This is the marketing department."

Re: Glasgow getting a new Managing Director
A full time Marketing Manager.
Now that has to be Good news, I think Connacht have been getting bigger sponsorship deals than Glasgow and Edinburgh, so we could see Glasgow and Edinburgh improve these, plus getting more fans to games, would help everything.
Things really do look to be improving for Glasgow and Edinburgh, Glasgow especially. New ground new start, petty aboult losing Grey and maybe Beattie, but gives a chance to grow.

Now let's get this right Marketing reported to the FD. No! I'm an accountant by trade and manager by choice. The only time you do that is if you're in administration or stupid.
