I hope that the Messiah is not released for his own sake, c21st, and think that unfortunately both DTH and Niko are away with Canada and Fiji respectively

ASBO,
DTH made himself unavailable for the Canadian tour according to the Warriors site - citing his recent fatherhood as an excuse /reason

Dragons will be missing a fair few starters too
Faletau - Wales
Coombes- Wales
Amos - Wales
Then off top of head Prydie is redently injured along with a raft of longer term injuries
I imagine Rees will start 9 with Tovey at 10, Talei at 8, maybe Lewis Evans at 7
Adam Hughes will prob be on the wing, not sure on the other side

Hughes is injured. The wings are likely to be Harries and Pewtner.
I think the backs will be
Rees
Tov
Pewtner
Leach/Smith
Wardle
Harries
Evans.

Good man, Schiz. Nice to put me feet up.
Risca - whom have you lost to the international squad? Faletau and Coombs? How do you rate your chances?
For Glasgow, I am assuming that MacArthur and Bennett will be making their Scotland appearances at the weekend and so will be unavailable. I think in total we will lose Bennett, Maitland, Seymour, Grant, Swinson, MacArthur, and Weir to the Wallabies game starting XV and also Cusiter, Ickle Jonny and Lamont to the bench. We may also lose Fozzy, the Rhubarb and the Ruck Inspector depending on Scott Johnson's muse.
The team I am hoping we can pick is:
1. Reid
2. Hall
3. Welsh
4. Ryder
5. Kellock (if not, Big Naka)
6. Harley
7. Fusaro (if not, Holmes)
8. Strauss
9. Pyrgos
10. Jackson (if not, Suspiciously Old Scott)
11. McGuigan (or maybe Rory Hughes if Barry moves to centre)
12. Ascarate
13. Steele (or McGuigan if Toonie prefers him there)
14. DTH
15. Hogg/Murchie
That would be pretty serviceable given the huge number of Warriors players lost to Scotland's glorious victory over those thirsty Wallabies.
Nice little profile of DTH on PlanetRugby, incidentally. Scotstoun looks great. Toonie needs to work on those open pores though.

I'd love to see them go with Ashton Hewitt instead of Pewtner. He really looked quality against Wasps (albeit a second-string Wasps side). Dangerous in attack and solid in defence. Glasgow are strong favourites anyway so we might as well have a proper crack at them.Risca Rev wrote:Hughes is injured. The wings are likely to be Harries and Pewtner.

We are going to be missing at least 12 players to international call ups, Bennett looks certain to be invovled with Scotland. Added to that we have another 8 players unavailable due to injury. Should be able to get a decent pack out, but going to be really struggling in the backs.

Wouldn't say strong favourites. We are going to have backline cramed with players out of position, just back from injury or making their debut.Luckless Pedestrian wrote:I'd love to see them go with Ashton Hewitt instead of Pewtner. Burton was a logical signing when we were losing matches by the odd kick and Steffan wasn't controlling games than well. But he was playing behind the Treviso pack which allowed him to play that kind of game, and then Tovey became available and he was sort of surplus to requirements. I really wanted it to work for him because he was getting a lot of stick before he'd even played a game, but it hasn't really happened.

My guess at the team, making a few assumptions on Scotland call ups and not selecting Hogg and Dunbar based on their fitness.

Anyone going to Scotstoun on Friday be sure to take your boots with you, you never know.
Mind you with the pack we could put out most of us could play on the wing because it'll probably be 10 man rugby all night.

I'm not really a Glasgow expert but I would think that if we're down to bare bones and the people that are currently injured remain injured, then the backline will have to be something like:
09. Pyrgos
10. Jackson/Suspiciously Old Scott
11. Hughes
12. McGuigan
13. Steele
14. DTH
15. Russell
16. Kalman
17. Brown
18. Hunter
19. Eddie

Anyone know how Hunter has been playing. He was way out his depth last season and did not make much of an impact at his very brief loan spell at London Scottish this season.George Carlin wrote:I'm not really a Glasgow expert but I would think that if we're down to bare bones and the people that are currently injured remain injured, then the backline will have to be something like:

Both Jackson and Weir and in the TBC list of backs for Scotland, so both look certain to be unavialble for Friday.
Saw that Niko has been released to play though.

George, we are missing Hallam Amos as well through international commitments. Technically Prydie through that too, as he was injured on Wales duty (training) and would probably have got some game time v Tonga.
I don't expect anything from this. Just don't want to be manshamed like last season. Good to see Nic Cudd available again and Steff in for Burton.

Ah, I forgot Amos had gone. I don't remember ever manshaming a Dragons side - it's always tough. It's a funny one to call, this, Risca. Thanks to Scott Johnson, with the exception of Ryan Grant at 1 we can put out what is arguably a first choice pack but the backline is an absolute basket case with call ups and injuries (Hogg, Murchie, Dunbar and Horne all fecked). Elite Development kids all over the shop to fill not only the bench but the starting backline too.Risca Rev wrote:George, we are missing Hallam Amos as well through international commitments. If Niko wasn't being rested by Fiji and DTH crying paternity leave from the Canadian national side, I could probably have taken my boots along for a shot at full back.

GC,
You stuffed us very very badly last season though that aside there have been a lot of close games.
If we can get a losing bp out of this game then I would be happy with that and hope he puts our strongest available side out.
I know the Welsh management won't be watching this but with all the injuries in the National squad I think the likes of Lewis Evans, Dan Evans (would have called him up instead of Amos) and Tovey will like to show they have what it takes to be part of the Welsh squad.

Yeah, that 60 - 3 match last season could have gone either way!George Carlin wrote:I don't remember ever manshaming a Dragons side - it's always tough.

We did also beat them by 30+ at home as well last season! Joking aside, both last seaons games were certainly far from the norm and tomorrow will be a very difficult game for us.George Carlin wrote:Forgot about that one.Luckless Pedestrian wrote:Yeah, that 60 - 3 match last season could have gone either way!George Carlin wrote:I don't remember ever manshaming a Dragons side - it's always tough.

That Dragons team has a lot of positives for me. Delighted to see Chaparro start and Gus not in the 23. Delighted to see Talei at 8. Really pleased to see Steff backing up Mason.Luckless Pedestrian wrote:Dragons: Dan Evans; Will Harries, Pat Leach, Ross Wardle, Matthew Pewtner; Jason Tovey, Richie Rees; Owen Evans, Sam Parry, Francisco Chaparro, Cory Hill, Rob Sidoli (c), Lewis Evans, Nic Cudd, Netani Talei.

Not so pleased to see referee Fitzgibbon and hope he isn't as keen to penalise us as he was v Leinster. Glasgae don't need any help to beat us, thanks Peter

Strange that Lewi Sevens ain't captain though. Guess Sid led well last weekend? Good luck to the young lad Benjamin at 7 again.
