Barclay to follow Gray to Sale?
My contributions to the forum have been limited lately since I am away from home. However quilts perusing a old school newspaper there is an article linking Barclay to a move to Sale Sharks next season too? Nonsense? Or a distinct possibility?
Either way good for him, Glasgow, Sale and or Scotland?

I think it's a possibility Radge, heard noises earlier this week coming out of Sale about 'another signing of the same sort of standing as Gray'. Could well be Barclay.

I think he is leaving, so its probably just a matter of where.

Could well be true, I suppose - again a shame for Glasgow, and this time unlike with Gray, there's no obvious replacement coming thru. With Roddy Grant and Ross Rennie at Embra, I suppose the obvious switch is for Hamish Watson to graduate from the 7s team to join Chris Fusaro at Warriors?

The new crew at the SRU said a few months ago that players leaving one of the Pro Teams would not be seen as a cost saving and the money re-invested in new players. They used Barclay as example and said if he went then a proven player from overseas would most likely be brought in.
Looks like we are going to see the Barclay scenario playing out, now its time for the SRU back up the considerable talking that they have done with some action.

Fair play, Dot, any particular one that you'd like to see in the Warriors 7 shirt?

Could be someone like Salvi at Leicester, I can him becoming available once Leicester injury issues are cleared up.
I don't think Fusaro is completely ready for the jersey. I'm pleased he's getting game time but Harley, Fusaro and Wilson strikes me as too green to advance the Warriors.

isn't Richie McCaw allowed a year abroad?
maybe Todd Cleaver, but I think he gets paid loads in Japan, however H-cup may attract him

Would McCaw get into the side though? An awful long way to travel to watch Chris Fusaro from the bench.........

Todd Cleaver could be a very good signing for promotional purposes, not happening though, prepare, for some unheard randomer, or you could get one from Leinster, they have a few spare

Surely the last thing Sale need is another 7? They have Fourie and Seymour.

What about someone like Dan Braid? A year ago he was seen as Mccaws deputy, yet seems to have disappeared from the All blacks now.

He'll be on a new deal next season as the wage cap is set to change. Hands off hamish Watson he was doing quite well for the tigers academy last I heard.

Good news - the new regime at the SRU & Warriors are getting smarter about bringing in support: Ticket offers

Interesting piece on Barclay in the Herald today: Regain enjoyment - to be honest, I think he's still not got his head in the right place, and that a move may be the right answer. A player like him should have been in his element in NZ, but he admits to having an unhappy time. Sure his subbing at half-time yesterday was more to do with the face injury, but I still wonder sometimes whether his heart is really in it? I hope he does rediscover his mojo, cos he is a fantastic player

Re: Barclay to follow Gray to Sale?
It saddens the heart to see Barclay struggling for form, same goes for Beattie too.
In 2010 the "killer B's" were arguably the best backrow unit in the Northern Hemisphere. Blowing all their opposite numbers away in that tournament. However nowadays Kelly Brown is the only one stillon form with Beattie having attitude problems and Barclay seemingly lost in space with no drive or passion, despite his position as Scotland's 7 far from secure with Ross Rennie playing some fantastic rugby.
A move for Barclay would help him.
Although I notice in that Herald article Glasgow's PR machine are describing the Barclay link to Sale as "Rubbish". To be honest I would rather see him move to somehwere like Leinster, The O's or one of the bigger Jeff or Super 14 teams.

That's a shame, we've been trying to develop an openside for some time but it hasn't worked out with a succession of players (Skinner, Pienaar, Everard) and there was some thinking that Watson would be pretty handy after a couple of years careful development.

Re: Barclay to follow Gray to Sale?
Perhaps Leicester would be a better destination for Barclay than Sale - more need for a geniune openside there I think.
I'm more convinced after watching the match on Sunday that Glasgow will need some help in the back row next season. Wilson mixes the good with the awful (his hands are appauling), and Harley gives 100% and works his socks off, but he isn't a strong enough carrier yet. He needs to add some muscle in the same way that Kelly Brown did a few seasons back. His work rate makes him a great prospect, but an international 6 needs to carry the ball better than Harley.

Not now we have Salvi, between him and Woods we are alright at present.

Re: Barclay to follow Gray to Sale?
I thought Salvi was only temporary (Barclay would only be moving at the end of the season) - cover because Newby was injured.
I'd still take Barclay ahead of those two personally.
Croft, Barclay and Crane, with Waldrom on the bench. Done.

Re: Barclay to follow Gray to Sale?
Salvi has signed until the end of the season with an option for another year. The wage cap changes at the end of the season with the 'marquee player' ruling which will see Castro be effectively out of the wage cap freeing up about £300k for Tigers to spend. Salvi will come under that for next season as will new contracts for Cole and Twelvetrees.
Barclay wouldn't be as useful as Salvi because he would be called up during the AIs and the 6Ns and Tigers already lose quite enough players to those already. It'll be worse next season when Ayerza plods off south for the Southern Hemisphere International Tournament. Tigers will be looking to sign players not guarenteed to be away for large chunks.

Re: Barclay to follow Gray to Sale?
I guess that makes sense, international call-ups do give Leicester issues.
I'll have to come up with another destination for Barclay.
