Re: Bowling
im a swing bowler, means the bowler relies on swing from the ball and overhead conditions to beat the bat and the batsman.
Spin bowler, relies on the pitch to dry out and crack to extract turn from the pitch to beat the batsman.
A seamer relies on the pitch and the way they grip the ball, to get the ball to seam away and into the batsman.
A bowler's speed it vital, because the quicker bowlers will be effective because no one likes facing raw pace, but bowlers who take pace of the ball can decieve the batsman, as the ball flights in the air, and the batsman may not get to the pitch of the ball in time.
Hope this helps!

thanks cricketfan90
so swing bowling means it moves left or right in the air? how?
spin means after it bounces it spins of at a different angle?
seamer means similar to spin but not as much?

Re: Bowling
Fast bowlers generally hold the ball with the seam vertical, aligned down the pitch, and deliver it so that the ball rotates to keep the seam upright as it travels through the air. There are several types of fast bowling including swing and cut
Swing Bowling. Swing is assisted by the asymmetrical wear and polishing of the ball. Generally, if the seam is upright, the ball will tend to swing towards the rougher side. If the ball swings away from a right-handed batsman (i.e. to the left from the bowler's viewpoint) it is an outswinger. If the ball swings towards a right-handed batsman (i.e. to the right from the bowler's viewpoint) it is an inswinger.
Cut Bowling. Instead of keeping the seam upright when bowling the ball, a fast bowler may spin the ball sideways in his hand as he releases it, by dragging his fingers down either the left or right side. This spin causes the ball to deviate sideways when it bounces on the pitch, which is called cut.
If the ball cuts away from a right-handed batsman (i.e. from the leg side) it is a leg cutter. If the ball cuts towards a right-handed batsman (i.e. from the off side) it is an off cutter.
Spin bowlers bowl the ball much more slowly than fast bowlers, and attempt to spin the ball so that it changes direction when it bounces on the pitch. They aim to deceive batsmen by varying the amount and direction of the spin, thus making the bounce less predictable.
Spin bowling comes in two very distinct styles: off spin and leg spin. A spin bowler specialises in one of these two styles.
Off spin bowlers are right handed bowlers who spin the ball so that, to a right-handed batsman, it spins from the off side to the leg side when it bounces. i.e. it spins in towards the batsman.
Leg spin bowlers are right handed bowlers who spin the ball so that, to a right-handed batsman, it spins from the leg side to the off side when it bounces. i.e. it spins away from the batsman.

Re: Bowling
swing bowling moves because of the grip on the ball, and also if it is an overcast day, or bowling with a new ball then the ball will swing.

Swann bowls offspin
any bowlers bowl with "Cut"
Re: Bowling
some bowlers bowl cutters
This is where you change the grip on the ball and you roll your fingers over the seam, this is effective on slow wickets in India, and it can decieve the batsman because it comes down slow and the batsman may mistime their shot

Re: Bowling
which swing do you use? how do you apply it? is it the way you hold the ball or is it only down to wear?
Re: Bowling
i swing the ball in and out, i also reverse swing it, that is when the ball starts to swing one way, and you manage to swing it another way when the ball is in the air. I hold the ball with my fingers either on the seam, or one finger on the seam and the other across it. The ball will swing more when it is newer, and reverse swing when its older.

Re: Bowling
very complicated, all this lol.
it must be hard enough to be able to bowl in line and length. I dont play but i would like to.

Where are the Chinamen?
You don't hear much these days about bowlers who bowl "Chinamen" - presumably so named because it was a mysterious ball, with connotations of the mystery of the orient. Has this ball been renamed to avoid stereotyping nationalities?!

Not entirely sure, mate. May just be a distinct lack of them in modern day cricket. That said, Ajantha Mendis for Sri Lanka bowls a different variation of spin...

Re: Bowling
chinamen bowlers, are left arm wrist spinners, for example Simon Katich, of australia, there arent many wrist spinners left armers, because, it is hard to bowl
