Yuvraj Dropped from India Test Squad
The big news from the India selection committee meeting to select the squad for the 3rd test against the West Indies is that Yuvraj Singh has been dropped. Mumbai batsman Rohit Sharma comes in for Yuvraj. There are no other changes.
India squad: MS Dhoni (capt & wk), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, V V S Laxman, Rohit Sharma, Ishant Sharma, R Ashwin, Pragyan Ojha, Umesh Yadav, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Rahul Sharma, Varun Aaron

Not a bad call. Yuvraj isn't a Test batsman, he has been given enough chances, and it is a good idea to blood the youngsters such as Rohit, who is a promising batsman.

Re: Yuvraj Dropped from India Test Squad
Praveen Kumar continues to miss out, and Suresh Raina's double ton against Punjab in the Ranji trophy wasn't enough to earn a recall for the left-hander.
Rohit comes into the squad on the back of 2 consecutive Ranji hundreds for Mumbai.
There is no rest for the Indian captain MS Dhoni, although he has been playing non-stop cricket for some time. Hopefully he'll be rested for the ODI series against the WI.
Since Yuvraj is dropped, one change in the batting lineup is for sure. Virat Kohli is best placed to take up Yuvraj's spot at 6, although Ajinkya Rahane should also have a good chance particularly as he's playing a Ranji match for Mumbai, and a big score against strong Karnataka should pitch him right into the middle.
A rest for one of the fab 3 to give another youngster an opportunity sounds good, but I doubt whether the team management would go for such an option.

Astounded that P Kumar is being overlooked, he was tremendous in England and in the ODI's against us, too. Very unfair. The likes of Yadav are faster, and decent, but pretty expensive - Praveen is far more deserving.
Re: Yuvraj Dropped from India Test Squad
When he was kept out for the first test, it was reported he had some niggles, and by the end of the England ODI series, he did look a bit jaded. But now he's back and playing the Ranji trophy.
In the mean while, Yadav did pretty well in the 2 tests, Aaron did nothing to be dropped. PK's Ranji performance didn't warrent an immediate recall over the pacers who are picked.
Unfair no doubt, but then may be the selectors are thinking of Australia, and it is generally believed you need more of the fast hit the deck type of bowlers rather than medium pacers who would swing it. But then said that, PK surprised a good number of people with his terrific test success.

Wasnt Kumar picked for ( and succesful because of) English wickets though? Can you imagine him ripping through a side on a pancake?

Hmmm well I'm not sure PK has been dropped, as such. But Sharma and Yadav have done well in this series to date, so I think it's a good thing the selectors are giving them the whole series to have a look at them. Yuvraj being dropped is the logical choice, he's had a few chances at test level without ever looking the part. Raina's issues with the short ball I doubt have disappeared just because he hit a double hundred on (what I presume was) a flat pancake. Rohit Sharma's an interesting one, lots of talent, but always seemed a bit disinterested. I suspect the selectors will go with Kohli, which is fair enough, but I'd really like to see Rahane play some test cricket fairly soon.
Apart from that, there'll be little point in playing two spinners in Aus (except Sydney and/or Adelaide), so you have to assume PK will slot back in then.

Well, Yuvraj will now find it dificult to make another test comeback.
Agree on Raina, and the point on Rohit Sharma. I think he got the nod not just because he scored those 2 tons for Mumbai, but also Cheteshwar Pujara is yet to make his return to first class cricket(he is slated to play Saurashtra's next Ranji match).
Another name the selectors could have gone for was that of Karnataka's Manish Pandey. But unlike Rohit, he didn't have as prolific a start as Sharma had, although after the side was selected, he promptly scored a superb ton against Mumbai.

Re: Yuvraj Dropped from India Test Squad
Long overdue in my opinion. You look at all the classy youngsters India have, yet a T20/ODI slogger keeps getting chance after chance. It would've been soul destroying for players like Kohli, Rahane, Pujara & Ro Sharma. All these guys are far more talented than Yuvraj. Finally after 8 years and close to 40 Test caps, Indian selectors have seen the light.

Re: Yuvraj Dropped from India Test Squad
Yuvraj's reward for the Man of series in W'Cup by inclusion in tests ends...and with that a decision MUST be made to draw a line....and leave Yuvraj as an ODI and T20 specialist.
I just don't think Yuvraj has the mental stamina or hunger for test cricket.
I would continue to invest in Raina as a test match potential....inpsite of raina appearing a good ODI batsman.
the Peking order for test match batsman's slot:
Kohli
Rahane
Sharma
and If Pujara is fit and in proven form....he gets in above all these guys
Raina remains in the scheme of thigns...but needs to work on his game....especially handling shortpitch stuff in FC games.
By leaving PK out..... the selectors are testing what to expect from Yadav and Varun.
yadav has alreadys etsablished himself....the next test might see Varun aaron play ahead of Ishant sharma
Praveen Kumar is tried, tested and know commodity......he will give it a 100% and within his limitations get a few wickets also.
If all are fully fot....the first choice 3 seamers will be:
1) Zaheer
2) Yadav
3) ishant
and if one of them is injured......PK gets in
