St Brigid's beat Corofin in the Connacht final by 0-11 to 0-10.

The story, once again is the rough treatment of the ref at the end of the game. I am a huge critic of referees but they don't deserve to be physically accosted. It is great to be on the pitch at the end of a game, but it is evident we can no longer be trusted. Shown by recent events in the black north as well.

After Sludden-gate, It spelt the death knell of it at Croker. I am entitled to change my mind.....and I think I just have.

Maybe it is time to stop this at every championship game?

We had Mr Sludden on the line at the burren v latton game today. At the end of the game the ref had to be very closely escorted off as a few members of the latton management team were unhappy with the amount of additional time played.
When I played and its not ancient history you were brought up to believe that you left it all on the field and the final whistle was the end.
I think the gaa have to some extent devalued referees. At the top level through the use of video evidence and myriad appeal through endless rounds of committees. Cassidy revelations, as if we didnt know it happened merely shows that a referee is something else to be 'managed' by teams. How could this contempt for the man in black not spread to some of our own ejits behind the fence

Fair point.

I am on another forum when I am always accused of never admitting when I am wrong. I am just rarely wrong. I am half tempted to send them a link to this thread to see me do it...but I wouldn't want to draw the so and so's on us.

Maybe.......maybe I wasn't wrong when I argued the other way and times have just changed.

Didn't Corofin score a legitimate goal that was disallowed? I had it on the tv but was only half-watching. There is a simple solution - isn't it about time to have qualified refs behind the goals instead of friends of the ref who have no training whatsoever. It's unbelievable that this still happens in 2011. I think this year, referee wise, has been particuarly bad in both codes.

It seem's like every second week there is a ref being assaulted.

I was in a hotel in Cavan a couple of years ago and purely by coincidence there was a training event for umpires.
I wanted to nick in in the hope of seeing massed ranks of older men practising their signs.
Rows of white jackets synchronised 45 gestures and for the advanced class the square ball.
