Steve Mullings gets life ban
Jamaican sprinter Steve Mullings has been banned from athletics for life, after failing a drug test for the second time in his career. The 28 year old had been enjoying a huge renaissance this year, producing some super-fast times over the 100 meters, including the sixth-fastest of all time. He was found to have used the banned diuretic furosemide, which can act as a masking agent for other drugs.
"The panel believes a clear and strong message must be sent to every athlete in Jamaica and elsewhere that prohibited substances will not be tolerated in sports," said Jamaican anti-doping disciplinary panel chairman Lennox Gayle.
So what do you think? Is this a sign that Jamaica is finally beginning to take the fight against dopers seriously, after the quite frankly pathetic bans it handed out to its other stars such as Shelly-Ann Fraser or Yohann Blake? Or are they merely making a scapegoat of this one athlete (they were rumours of some sort of rift between him and the Jamaican federation were they not?)?

About time Jamaica, the right decision in my opinion. I hope he isn't just a scapegoat, and that the Jamaican authorities stick to this tough stance in the future. It's the only way really to help eradicate this sort of thing from the sport.

What a surprise Mullings uses PED's, in other news the moon affects the tide, and pig's cannot fly.

Mullings is unfortunately just a scapegoat, thrown to the wolves to appease the media and to draw attention from the fact that the majority of his jamaican team mates are taking drugs
Why?
1. He has no political support in jamaica as he trains and mainly competes in the US. that enables jamaica to spin it as a US rather than a jamaican problem
2. The jamaican thinking is that he's coming to the end of his career anyway so what's the problem?
3. Jamaica thinks that by being seen to do this they will be free to consume it at least the OG has finished.
