big hitter
With Jason White, Sebastian Chabal and Jerry Colins no longer on the scene who is the biggest tackler in world rugby and are these kind of huge tacklers being phased out of the game?
Here is a reminder of the destructive power of the three above

Yeah, gotta be Kaino or Ferris. Perhaps even Lawes.

Re: big hitter
I think this kind of proves my point. Gethin Jenkins can be a big tackler but i don't think any of them have quite the rep that the three I've named above did.

As I've said, Kaino and Ferris.. especially Kaino, who often makes a number of big hits per game.

Stirling Mortlock judging by his massive clattering of Pocock on Saturday...

Re: big hitter
Lydiate is a great tackler, but isn't he more of a low tackler (around ankles or calves) than these guys?irnbrew wrote: Got to be Lydiate

Rory
As I said I haven't seen enough of him. The point I'm trying to make is that the big tackler is perhaps not as common as they used to be.

Special mention to Nick De Luca who has been putting in some great tackles lately.

Sorry I missed where you said that! Apologies! I guess part of it is that your backs are now as big as forwards were just a number of years ago. Everyone is so big that the big impact tackles aren't just as frequent. When they do happen, they are mostly huge collisions which can end in injury. I think it is much more effective even now to go low and try to compete for the ball when you release.

Re: big hitter
Agreed. I think the technique has had to change. It's interesting to see how the game changes slightly without you noticing until you look back a few years and see differences which you didn't realise had happened.

Many Tuilagi will be the next big hitter, already produced some beauts in his international games.

Re: big hitter
Jason White was hugely disappointing for the Baa Baas. Think it was him that got trucked for one of Horwill's tries?

Yeah I didn't see the Baa baas match but from what I gather Jason White was not quite the force he once was. Shame really but another one who injuries have done for

I'd go for Manu. He is putting together a good highlight reel already.
