Federer to win 2 slams in 2012?
Well, according to this site:
http://www.oddschecker.com/tennis/season-and-specials/roger-federer/2012-grand-slam-wins
For Federer: 1 or more is the favorite option... Could that mean 2?
Meanwhile the favorite option for Novak and Nadal is one slam. Notice it is not 1 or more like Federer, but One slam.
http://www.oddschecker.com/tennis/season-and-specials/novak-djokovic/2012-grand-slam-wins
http://www.oddschecker.com/tennis/season-and-specials/rafael-nadal/2012-grand-slam-wins
For Murray the favorite option is none.
http://www.oddschecker.com/tennis/season-and-specials/andy-murray/2012-grand-slam-wins
So it could be for 2012:
Federer 2 slams
Djokovic 1 slam
Nadal 1 slam
If Federer wins 2 slams in 2012, which slams would that be?
What about Djokovic and Nadal? Obviously the 1 slam for Nadal would be the FO.

I have to say I don't agree with that. I can see him winning 1 Slam, but nit 2.
Then again, if he reaches the standard to win 1 then why not?
Aarghhhh!
Right - I think he won't be able to win a Slam if all his rivals are in the business end, not in long events with bo5 marathona. BUT I think there's a good chance Nadal and Djokovic may slip up more in 2012, therefore he can get 1.

I think if Nadal goes out before the semi's then Fed has a good chance of bagging a slam.
Can't see him beating rafa over 5 sets.

Bare in mind that Nadal has withdrawn from a slam in 2003(FO), 2006(AO) and 2009(Wimbledon). If that trend continues he might end up withdrawing from one slam in 2012(USO?).... Also Djoko's 2011 might have been too much overachieving and he might have a subpar year in 2012.... The fact that website makes 1 or more option for Fed the fave but not for Djoko and Nadal makes me wonder... Remember Fed is a different player... He never gets injured. Nadal and now the new defensive Nole are way more injury prone. I wouldn't be surprised if Fed win 2 slams. 18 masters series and 18 slams? Might be fate.

Re: Federer to win 2 slams in 2012?
It will be very difficult for Federer to win another slam, mainly because he is most likely to play Novak and Nadal in consecutive matches.
You saw how that turned out at RG.

All depends on the fitness of Nadal and Djoko next year. During AO we will see how are they standing.
I have a feeling if Nadal is beaten by Djoko again say AO, he will crash badly for the year. If Djoko is beaten by Fed & Nadal, I see them both making a killing this year, and Djoko lingering.

Yes but he can be in with a shot if Novak and Nadal fall in the same draw (Nadal slipping to number 3 be it through Federer or Murray).

Re: Federer to win 2 slams in 2012?
The most surprising is that despite his 2011 season, Djoko's fave option is one slam and NOT 1 or more. They don't believe he can have a season with multiple slam wins in 2012. Well, he is not Fed(2004-2007). Nobody is.

Re: Federer to win 2 slams in 2012?
eraldeen, that is not a true reflection. It only appears like that because you are comparing odds from a selection of bookies, and it is highlighting the best prices.
If you work off one bookie, take Sky Bet for example, they give the following odds for Nole:
1 slam = 6/4
2 slams = 2/1
Looking at their odds on Federer, they have the following:
1 slam = 13/8
2 slams = 12/1
Nadal:
1 slam = 6/4
2 slams = 2/1
So they have Nadal and Nole as their favourites to win one or two slams over Federer.

I remember when he won WTF 2010 people were saying similar stuff about 2011.

Re: Federer to win 2 slams in 2012?
If there is a candidate to win a couple of slams for the next year, this has to be Federer, regardless of what Reed or others joker pundits have been telling in the last couple of years. . It is hard to see Djokovic repeating his unbelievable year, while Nadal seems on a declining path difficoult to reverse. An alternative scenario would be four different slam winners. A very exciting one imo.

I don't think we can say Nadal's declining until we see what happens in the next slam.

Depends what people mean by declining.
In my books, a players declines when he drops out of the top 10.

For me a decline for someone like Nadal would see him drop out of the top 3 maybe top 5.

Re: Federer to win 2 slams in 2012?
What's all this about Rafa being "in decline" ? He won a GS, was in two other GS finals and finished second. Hardly a bad year. Yes, he has to sort out some tactics and yes, he has to stay fit. But it's not so long ago that he went for a WHOLE YEAR without winning a title and was able to come back after that, and how.
People should not write him off. He may find it difficult to have a three-Slam year again but I'd be surprised if he drops out of the top four for some years.

Re: Federer to win 2 slams in 2012?
I have no problem writing Nadal off now. Sure he can win another slam or two but I actually think that his success in 2010 was not a good reflection of his level compared to others. He certainly was particularly lucky to have most of the top players injured at some stage in his 3 clay TMS and 3 slams. We know he played a ridiculous small number of top seeds in that period with Djoko in particular having a terrible season, Delpo injured, Fed out at Wimbledon and Murray at the USO.
He has only one game and will not be able to change it but players can now giving him a hard time and we shoudl see him having even more trouble than before to get through the rounds.
Watch my words! I have been wrong the last 5 years about him...but I am convinced I'll be right one of those years...and isn't 2012 the Revelation year?!

"Watch my words! I have been wrong the last 5 years about him... " Lovely. Still think your predictions are better than Mervyn King telling us what inflation is going to be like next year.

Tenez, Tenez, Tenez - you are resorting to the tactic of Dr. Sincere and the stopped clock. Eventually you will be right, that is a certainty because time waits for no man, but methinks you can do better than this.

Re: Federer to win 2 slams in 2012?
Oh C'mon Barry! I hope you can read both humour and some truth in my posts.
I have been predicting Nadal would be taken over by Djoko some time ago, and that other players who give him trouble (Delpo, Davy, Murray etc...). They were just delayed in the proces by injury but I cannot how Nadal will prevent them from stopping him more often than not now.
Last year at the same time I wrote an article about Djoko and Murray taking over in 2011. a couple of months later they were both disputing the AO final.
