courses you played this year
First topic message reminder :
This has been my first year of proper golf so I thought I would list the courses I have played in chronological order with comments, may be of interest to some, may not to others!
Devon / Cornwall
Launceston GC - home course, generally pretty good
Looe GC - away course, hit or miss
Tavistock GC - good course, I live about 2 miles away, i can play any time for a tenner
Hurdwick GC - absolute Jimmy White but 0.5miles from my gaff
Yelverton GC - excellent, bit snobby
China Fleet - good facilities, good pro, tenner deal at the minute
Trethorne GC - surprisingly good greens, tenner deal at the minute
Bude GC - decent links, first time on a links course, loved it
okehampton GC - not bad for a tenner (deal with local club)
Tehidy park - very much enjoyed
St Mellion - Nicklaus course - immaculate although ultra-difficult
Other England
Frilford Heath blue course - the scence of my best round of the year so enjoyed
Royal Lytham St Annes - history, good nick but a shocking 14pts so ultimately hated the day, embarrassment
Wales
Celtic Manor Montgomerie - good day out, immaculate, superb venue
Scotland (february)
Prestonfield GC - Edinburgh - imho absolute mince but lovely clubhouse and haggis pakora
Musselburgh GC - top class, only £7 when playing with a member, played twice
Newbattle GC - loved this place, shot an excellent round too!
Broomieknowe GC - spot on pro, lovely food but ultimately disappointing
Melville GC - pointless little 9 holer but cheap and convenient
all in all not a bad year o' golf

Re: courses you played this year
the golf card at st.andrews must be the best value anywhere. what is it £90/pa for access to 5-6 courses, + £30ish extra for TOC too?!

Ban, As a resident of NE Fife, I get my links ticket for £360 (TOC, Castle, New, Jubille, Eden, Strathtyrum and Balgove + Kingsbarns for £25)
However I am required to be a member of a local club @ £130. Not bad value though.
If you are a resident of St.Andrews the links ticket is a paltry £155, same if you are a soft southerner at the university.
I think Carnoustie have a similar structure, although you have to wait until people are dead to get in.

SR - I am half Scottish to be fair! We're not all Jemima's and Hugo's at the UNi as I saw you refer to us recently - at least the golfers aren't anyway!

Excellent value s_r. Any luck in your search for a club in Edinburgh? I'll be keeping Duddingston membership on next year, but may switch elsewhere after that as my subs start going up quite significantly over the following couple of years.

A list isn't enough. You need to add a bit more info to provide sufficient guidance for the reader. I would therefore suggest

There are a staggering amount though, when I went to school there you couldn't move for Pink rugby shirts, big quiffs and pashmina's.
Good place for totty though but must be the most boring town in Britain to go to University.

M - Close friend that lives and golfs in Surrey arranged for the round. Really a great course - we played Red and Green.

I've played it twice on corporate days. Unfortunately, it was before 2009 when I took the game up properly. I'd like to play it again now as a better golfer.

Quite a few there I would like to play. Wouldn't they let you on to the Honourable Company?

Just realised that I played Rosemount in a work comp in June as well, had forgot about that! Dunno how as was a tremendous course.
I also get on muirfield through my work for the princely sum of 25 quid each June; played it last 3 years but not this year as it clashed with the quarter-finals of my club championship, which I ended up not even qualifying for! Only consolation was that it turned out to be a horrible night, lashing down with rain & blowing a gale!

Welcome ESMD
So what are you studying?
That is some list of courses to play in one year.
Does anyone have anything good lined up for next year?

I'm studying Economics and Management. I've been very lucky this year that a large number of those were played either in competitions or matches and therefore at relatively low cost (ideal for a student!).

A little disappointing this year:
Aquarius
Finchley
New Malden
Temple
Luton Hoo
Denham
Royal St Georges
The Wiltshire
Nowhere near as good as 2010, which included TOC, Muirfield, Kingsbarns, Castle, St Georges Hill.
