The Ultimate Doubles Team
Nadal has made no secret about the fact that he would like Federer as a doubles partner. In a recent interview he makes it clear again. Roger are you listening?
Despite his intense rivalry with Federer, Nadal has a notably good relationship with the Swiss player. 'I am fond of him,' the Spaniard says, without abandoning his dream of one day playing a doubles tournament with Federer.
'I think it will happen one day, but obviously, time passes.'

"Time passes" well indeed it does. Bearing this in mind together with Federer's ageing bones and the hectic schedule maybe they should wait until they've retired from singles. They could come back and do something they may never manage to do individually. The Fedal Grand Slam...

1951 Ken McGregor - Frank Sedgman CYGS in Doubles - The only Doubles CYGS.
It would be good to see Fedal play doubles.

Did Federer ever play with Hingis. That would have been a team.

Re: The Ultimate Doubles Team
Indeed they have.
Most notably, they teamed up to win the Hopman Cup for Switzerland in 2001 (beating Seles and Gambill).
And wasn't there some talk of 'Federer's people' dropping hints to Martina that she might want to consider a comeback for the Olympics ....?

Federer played Hopman Cup twice.
HC XIII 2001 (with Hingis) - http://www.hopmancup.com/Results/Past-Results/XIII.html
HC XIV 2002 (with Mirka) - http://www.hopmancup.com/Results/Past-Results/XIV.html

Re: The Ultimate Doubles Team
I always thought it was a shame that personal dynamics, and whatever else, meant we never saw McEnroe/Navratilova take the Mixed Doubles court. Especially at SW19 - that event would have been "closed" from 1981 through late 80's I would imagine, had those two been playing.
They were both "the "doubles players of their Eras, and many cognescenti would say, ever; from the serve, to volley, turning defense to attack, angles, and an other-worldly sense of court craft.
Sadly it is something we will never get to see, as their "turns" have passed.
We have only the one men's team, aforementioned to have won the CYGS, and only one women's team to pull that off as well. Though others have come close - 3 times G.Fernandez/Zvereva, once Novotna/Sukova to name two.
I'd still like to see Federer/Hingis, but apparently that's not happening, but would be a treat - because I think both would feed off each other, and the "national" feeling of playing together.
