PGA Tour: Stats and Stuff: Notes from the Ballwasher
1).PGA Tour Player Of The Year: Luke Donald
OWGR Number One at Year-End: Luke Donald
Number One in the World: Luke Donald.
Number One anywhere until further notice: Luke Donald. Congratulations!
2).Second offence: Jeff Overton.
Charged with resisting arrest as police tried to arrest him for public intoxication and disorderly conduct in Indiana.
He faces three "misdemeanour charges", and was charged for similar offences in 2007 which were subsequently dismissed.
Wouldn't be surprised if Tim Finchem's Christmas Card might contain an invitation to sit out a few events in early 2012.
3).NINE GB&I golfers played all four Majors in 2011. Only McIlroy, Donald and Westwood notched top ten finishes; the best of the rest: Rose (11th), McDowell (14th), Laird (20th), Poulter (27th), Casey (38th) and Harrington (45th).
4).The number of PGA Tour events won by the only under-30-years-old American golfer to have won more than three other than Dustin Johnson. Who is it?
5).Phil Mickelson, Hollis Stacy, Dan Jenkins, Sandy Lyle, Peter Alliss all elected to the World Golf Hall Of Fame. Ken Venturi and Norman Von Nida's inductions way overdue.
6).Was interested to note a graphic last week noting the leading PGA Tour event winners in the 1990's. Greg Norman had 13 wins, Tiger Woods had 15, and so did someone else. Who??
7).With publication by anyone other than princedracula still due, these seven golfers will wake up on Monday to find they have no Masters Exemption:
Allenby
Els
Goosen
Ishikawa
Anthony Kim
Manassero
Villegas
8).And these are eight well-known golfers who, through poor health and/or poorer play, are well outside the top 100 in the rankings. Positions based upon last week's rankings:
109: Pettersson
123: Davis Love
131: Angel Cabrera
134: Stewart Cink
161: Appleby
201: Leonard
202: Stenson
501: Mike Weir
9).12 of the top 22 in Career Earnings on the PGA Tour are non-American Golfers. These are the first six:
Singh, Els, Garcia, Goosen, Weir, Choi.
Who are the other six?
10).Golfers who gained PGA Tour Cards either via the Nationwide Tour or Q-School are classified in a ranking system dependent upon where they finished via their "graduation" route. Golfers placed highest will gain entry into the most events until the first "reshuffle" based upon money won, probably following the WGC MatchPlay. These are the ranking positions of European golfers under this system:
8).Jonas Blixt
16).Gary Christian
22).Russell Knox
36).Chopra
37).Greg Owen
Still waiting to discover where Swedes Gronberg and Johnson will ply their trade in 2012.

4).No, Bradley only has two wins.
6).Yup, Nick Price also with 15.
9).Spot on. One or two surprises there I would have thought.

Morning kwini,
1. If Luke could have thrown in a major for 2011, it would have been one of the finest seasons in the modern era.
2. Difficult to have sympathy for Overton or any other athlete or celebrity in this day that get caught being intoxicated in public.
3. GMac maybe the only surprise of the other 6 who didn't crack the top 10. Maybe Poults and Rose for The Open .
4. Rickie Fowler
5. Yes. How could the other 5 have made it across the finish line before Venturi and Von Nida?
6. Damn, the brain is willing but the mind is blank. Nick Price?
7. Perhaps Allenby the only one not a surprise on this Masters' list.
8. One would think that Stenson and Petterson wouldn't have sunk so fast from the top 100 list.
9. The other 6: Casey, Westwood, Appleby, Allenby, ummm...
10. Blixt above the others?
Have your Les Habs replaced the coach yet? They didn't look too good on defensively last night. My Kings looked even worse if that is possible. The Bruins look unstoppable.

Well, if you count the PGA Grand Slam and the FT Shootout, they're four 'PGA events'...
6).Yup, Nick Price also with 15.
If you're to believe Wikipedia (!?), he has 16 wins in the 90's...
9).Spot on. One or two surprises there I would have thought.
Interesting to see that only those 4 top Aussies in that list have sucked more than $100mil. from the PGA Tour budget. But the top 4 South Africans (Els, Goose,Sabba and Tim Clark) grabbed together even more ~$110mil...!

4).Sean O'Hair is CORRECT!
6).Price with 15 as well as Woods. You're probably right about 16, pd, I took Golf Channel's word for it without checking.
9).What prince said.
venice,
Randy Cunneyworth, until the end of the season. Journeyman player - will he be better as a coach. Missed the boat, should've hired Kirk Muller before someone else (Carolina?) picked him up. But no-one ever asks us - Darryl Sutter for Les Rois?

kwini,
Who's victory was more indicative of things to come: Poults or Lee?
Darryl Sutter!! This King team is in for a rude awakening. This guy is Mr. Drill Sergeant. Wish I could be there to watch the practices. Imagine that every single line is going to be blown up and restructured as far as spacing goes. Back to boot camp as there's now going to be hours of disciplined skating for the rest of the year. It's going to take 40 or so games to get the shifts and lines in synch with the various game plans being instituted. Hopefully they'll have just made the playoffs by then.
