Glasgow Warriors - who and where next?
With the news that Sean Lamont has signed today, to go alongside the signings of David Lemi and Rory Lamont, the Glasgow club seems to be making waves on a regular basis.
So a couple of questions for you all.
Who else do you think that the Glasgow club should try and sign?
How long before the signings have an impact on performances?
And where do you see the Warriors in 12 months time - do you think that they will be near the top of the Rabo?

I'm fairly sure that will be the last of the "big" signings - this is the SRU remember!
And as has been mentioned on the Shlong thread earlier, Lemi is only signed 'til the end of this season as replacement for DTH. Can't see Glasgow keeping him after signing Sean.
I think their success will depend on what kind of pack they can get next year - if Barclay and Beattie move then the backrow will be a little threadbare should an injury or two occur.

It is brilliant to see good Scotish players returning to Scotland. It can only help the Regions

The pack is the place to look at next. With Gray moving on someone will have to be brought in/through. And while both Barclay and Beattie have stated that they want to stay at the club, I can only see one actually remaining in Glasgow at most. Maybe the SRU should look to some of the Georgian, Romanian or Russian forwards. Some of them must be worth a punt. I think that’s the last of the big signings at the moment.
As for do we see ourselves near the top of the Rabo? We are near the top of the Rabo

You need centres before you do anything else. And maybe an attack coach.

Perhaps the old boys theme will be continued, with the return of Kelly Brown or Euan Murray, or. ............Dan Parks perhaps?

Either of the first two would be grand, but not Desparate, pls! Seriously, if Falcons get relegated, I can see Big Euge and Grant Shiells both coming back northdonkeyprop wrote:Perhaps the old boys theme will be continued, with the return of Kelly Brown or Euan Murray, or. ............Dan Parks perhaps?

Murray is a pointless signing in terms of him not playing on a Sunday. With him
Missing 8 games or so due to Scotland duties and another 5 or 6 due to Sundays. I can't see the value in spending the kind of wage he demands. However Should the falcons go down, which top level team sign him?

Ironically, even given the relative lack of tries this season I think that the Glasgow backline is now fine with the Lamont brothers, Nathan, Hogg, Weir, Cus and DTH. Assuming the Dewey Dump Truck is kicked to the kerb at the end of this season.
What we do need is a brutal, nasty lock to replace Gray and a prop who can ideally cover both sides of the scrum. When Falcons go down, if Lineen is smart, he will try for both Euge and Shiells. As tightheads are the most expensive players, I am sure Sean will look very carefully at what VFM Murray represents given the number of Sunday games scheduled. In any event, Shiells would be a superb buy at 22 years of age and nationally qualifiable. The scrummaging coaches at Newcastle know their sh!t.

Morgan - yep, 30 times capped for Samoa, ex-Wasps.
He was signed as injury cover for DTH Van Der Merwe who buggered up his shoulder at the RWC and is out for 6 months. Will be interesting to see if he stays.
