Henson 50% through his Cardiff term
With Gavin Henson making his first Blues start on Friday and then his 2nd and final start a week or so later, which club will he move onto next?

WUM or no WUM, it's factually correct.

I'm optomistic that he's only a third through his career with us

6 games is a possibility but not a realistic one.
If no reality TV shows come a calling and he doesn't break a fingernail I think he may get to 4 games.

I'm not convinced he can string more than 2 games back to back anymore

Well it got a smile from me , not sure if Gavin does humble stating that he doesn't really want to play full back .If he does get interested could be a lot more than two games in him though.

Re: Henson 50% through his Cardiff term
I think (hope) he's coming to the realisation that in his late twenties his playing days are nearing their end- if he doesn't knuckle down and produce at the Blues he will have blown his talent for good.
I hope he has a break from the injuries that have plagued him and becomes focussed - if he can't get a game at 10 at the Blues theres no one else in Wales at least will give him a shot - I think we should get behind him - he's at the last chance saloon, the Blues have got problems at outside half which he might resolve and he can still offer Wales something.

How true. Whatever happens with Henson, he will have splashed his best days up the wall for all the Hello/OK wrong reasons. I was rigid with fright of the impact he might have made. But he turned out to be a mild variant of Paul Gasgoigne.
I guess that with his booming boot plus the raw talent he could have eclipsed BOD. But that'll never happen now.
If only he had the true dedication whilst avoiding the health/injury issues of Jonny or Jonah he could have been a true, true great.
If. Big word 'if'...

Re: Henson 50% through his Cardiff term
I don't think he was injured for too long a time. His injuries were always blown out of proportion. Not being selected for the WC 2003 and 2007 when he was CLEARLY fit and playing well were big knocks to his confidence. Ridiculous TV work made his time away from the game even bigger.
His best years were between 2002-2005 then his ego went wild and he was poorly managed. He did and said some stupid things and he never had the intelligence, politeness, professionalism and respect that BOD has.

Re: Henson 50% through his Cardiff term
So many times in sport do you see people with a self-destruct button built-in.
Some players like Federer, Beckenbauer, Charlton, John, Jonny etc. have no such gene.
But there are those with a completely inevitable weakness like Best, Maradona etc. have unique genius talents bestowed upon them only to ultimately fail as a human being.
Most sportsmen fall in some part of the continuum. Henson failed at the second or third hurdle.

O'Sullivan is another good example of someone whose mentality cannot cope with his talent.

Henson is far from thick he's quite a clever bloke.
Was very shy before the grandslam and wouldn't do any sort of post match interview.
He lacks intelligence in other ways.

He's played for 3 of the Welsh regions after tonight. So surely a move to the other one would nicely complete the set for him.

Yep. The only players to play for 3 regions are Mike Phillips & Tal Selley, i believe? Although Tal has played for all 4.

Fair enough.
Good point.
Still, alot of people don't realise he's played for Llanellli - he likes to keep it very hush hush if you know what I mean.

Ooops apologies.
Well, we've always beena region really haven't we. so there's not much difference. He played for the 1st class team.
One of the best kept secrets in welsh rugby that is.

Sure. I know Henson doesn't really acknowledge it!
He was in the youth academy I believe for a couple of months and filled in up in Scotland when our 1st choice 10 had a knock. I think that was actually his debut in 1st class rugby. But if you ask him when his debut was - I guarantee he won't cite that match.

Having said that, Luke Charteris' Wikiepdia page states that he's played 75 times for the Scarlets.

oh yeah, that really isn't true. Was raised on the Scarlets' forum the other week. Unless it was for U16's, he's not played for us! (and I don't think he did even then!)

Re: Henson 50% through his Cardiff term
I changed something else on Wikipedia a few weeks ago and it stuck.
For some reason I wanted to read about Lenny Henry and the first line was, "Lenny Henry is a Black British comedian".
I thought to myself, "why does it need to say he's black"? I thought it a bit odd. All we need to know is that he's a comedian. If you type in Peter Kay it doesn't say, "Peter Kay is a white British comedian".
