2011 Year in Review- Votes will be recorded! Empty 2011 Year in Review- Votes will be recorded!

Post by amritia3ee Fri 23 Dec 2011, 16:56

This is the thread for all the tennis fans on 606v2 to review 2011. It has been a year largely dominated by Novak Djokovic who won 3 Grand Slams while Nadal won the French Open and could have won many more if not for Djokovic's scintillating form. Murray showed his consistency with semi-final performance or better in every single Grand Slam and Federer proved he still has what it takes with a flourish in the latter part of the season. Majors still remain a bit of a concern for Federer though with either Nadal and Djokovic in his half in a Grand Slam.

What was your sum up of the year?
Here are some questions you could want to answer :

Votes will be updated with the current winner in each category underlined!

Player of the Year?
Novak Djokovic (8)

Most improved player?
Tsonga (3)
Mardy Fish (2)
Tipsarevic (2)
Bogomolov Jnr (1)

Rising star?
Tomic (3)
Raonic (2)
Nishokiri (1)
Dolgopolov (1)

Best match?
Nadal vs Djokovic US Open final (3)
Djokovic-Federer FO semi (3)
Fed vs Djokovic USO semi (1)
Federer vs Tsonga Wimby (1)

Player of the year: Novak Djokovic, on the women's side Kvitova.

Most improved player of the year: I'm going to go with Tsonga, seems to have found some new consistency which used to elude him. Fish is a worthy shout too.

Rising star: Tomic, with honourable mention to Nishikori.

Best match: hard to pick one, will go with Tsonga vs Federer at wimbledon.

Biggest controversy: for me the "strike" talk was very much a storm in a tea-cup, while Serena has previous. Probably go with Serena but struggling to remeber some big controversy this year really...

Don't like to be a copy cat but I would go along with the above except Controversy, USO - yet again poor scheduling not helped by bad weather, but where is the roof which they badly need!

Novak has clealry been the standout player.

Tsonga would have to be the most improved player. Expecting him to live up to his potential next year.

FED-DJOKO FO was quality stuff!

Player of the Year?
Novak Djokovic (hardly worther bothering with this formality)

Most improved player?
Are we talking about genuinely improved and changed their game because some of the votes could equally for people who just had a good year. Anyway, I will take Tipsarevic as my choice. By the way, he went from 49 to 9 in the rankings while Fish only went from 16 to 8 and Tsonga from 13 to 6. Actually, Djokovic himself would be a good shout and maybe Ferrer. Anyway, I will go Tipsarevic.

Rising star?
It is between Dologopolov and Raonic, I will say Dolgo.

Best match?
Nadal vs Djokovic US Open final

Player of the Year --> Novak Djokovic

Most Improved or Rising Star --> Tipsarvic

Rising Star --> Raonic

Best Match -->
Close tie between the two matches, Federer - Djokovic FO and Federer vs Djokovic USO, but I will go with the latter one considering Djoko came back spectacularly from 2 sets down, 2 match points down, so it wins the match of the year award.
