The ideal TENNIS GAME Empty The ideal TENNIS GAME

Post by amritia3ee Sun 08 Jan 2012, 11:36 pm

Game thread: https://www.606v2.com/t21521-the-ideal-tennis-game

A game which as worked well on other forums:
The Picking Game- 1 game per tournament:

1/ First all the members enter before the tournaments starts.
2/ There is a draw (sign up to be in) and all the member are draw against each other- just like in the real tennis draw! Byes are handed out to make it work on the 8,16,32.. combo- for example if 26 people are playing 6 people will get byes.

3/ Example (with only 8 people)
R1: Laverfan vs Julius
Amritia vs Lydian
Tenez vs Bogbrush
Eric vs Carrieg4

R2: Laverfan vs Julius
Tenez vs Eric

Final: Julius vs Tenez

1 Round can expand over 1,2,3 days depending on how many people enter. Anyhow, you see the OOP and pick all your winners for the matches on the next day. Whoever get's more picks right on the designated days- goes through to the next round. If you lose you are out. If there is a tie, there will be designated tiebreak matches and the people who have score more highly in these will go through.
For example if i get 9 picks right on the first day and Lydian gets 10; Lydian will go through to the next round. Smile

So, what do you think thumbsup

Draw so far:
Round 1-
Carrieg4 vs Fernando
10IS vs Invisblecoolers
Mad For Chelsea

I wouldn't be playing so this is just a general observation on your proposal.

A predictions game is a good addition to the forum, but prostaff(?) already proposed one, albeit quite a different format to this.

Given there's been a bit of confrontation between posters, maybe the format that pits poster against poster is not the best idea for now? A more inclusive one where everyone can participate from start to end might be preferable to start off with.

Course if everyone wants to play this, or both, that's fine.

No, there's only argument where there's debate. There's no debate here- you get more picks correct you go through- if it is a tie it depends on who does better in the tiebreak matches.

sounds interesting why not try make it so then it's not just a popularity contest by giving people a subject like say Tenez vs You on the subject of Why Rafa Nadal's game has improved since 2008/What Andy Murray needs to do to win a grand slam etc

Im in though anyway sounds fun Smile

I think you've missed my point. I get the impression people here can argue about anything, particularly about whether they are more knowledgeable than others). Putting people's picks directly up against another poster could well create an argument.

Most of the 'I'm more knowledgable than you' type posters wouldn't play a game like this.

Also, how it is a random draw when you've assigned draw in R1 based on the order posters signed up?

Umm- its the opposite really. You make your picks and then wait for the results to come back. Nothing you say or do can change that.

No, you are missing my point. You are assuming the results won't be followed by gloating or snide remarks. But never mind, "Ahm Oot".

I'd play any game as long as it doesn't take too much time.

I have no doubts that my tennis knowledge is not up to the levels of 'knowledgable posters'.

Much as I appreciate being in the final in the example, I don't think I'll have time to participate on a daily basis. Hope it all works out for everyone else though.

I prefer the suicide picks game, strikes me as being less time-consuming.

However, I'll give this one a go too.

Format (elsewhere) is that a TD runs the picking game in conjunction with an actual tournament (ATP or WTA) and the R1 of the PG runs concurrently with the R1 of the ATP/WTA tournament.

The picks are typically sent as PMs to the TD. Once a specific match starts, the corresponding picks cannot be changed in the middle of the match. TDs can also mandate that picks are sent by a time deadline.

To know whether a picker has won or not, the corresponding differences are announced once the first match of a specific round is started. There are tie-break rules also, in case two pickers end up with the same number of 'wins' (wins are calculated as a specific picker's player having won their match).

Amritia can add more to this, as needed.

whom should we PM the picks? and when to PM them, before the day? and changing the picks is not a better idea coz its time consuming.
