Can Spurs win the title?
As the article states - do you think Spurs have it in them to win the Premier League?
As a Spurs fan i am loving our run of form at the minute....however i think that the Premier League will be a step too far in my opinion.
I think experience is the key in a title run in which is why i think Man United will win it.
Would love to be proven wrong though!

They have to go to Anfield, The Emirates, Stamford Bridge and The Etihad before the end of the season. Man U also have to go to the Lane. If they can get 10 points from those 5 matches, I's say they have a real chance.
On a side note, I can't stand to watch the home Spurs games on TV now that they have moved the cameras into the dug-out.

Re: Can Spurs win the title?
As someone who can actually remember Spurs winning the League - I actually saw four home games that year and they got 17 goals in them ! - I agree that first, or even second, place may be beyond the team.
However, the latest run of wins - when everyone else has been dropping points left and right - should make Spurs favourites to secure either third or fourth spot.
The eight-point and nine-point cushion is gonna be extremely useful when the tough matches come up. Spurs also look as if they can grind out wins when not at their best which is not something normally associated with Tottenham teams.
Even the injury to Parker - when the games were coming thick and fast - may be a blessing, giving him a rest at a time when he probably would not have got one.
Main differences this season have been Parker and Adebayor. OK, Adebayor might have scored more but he brings so much more than Crouch.

I agree - i really hate the new camera angle - reminds me a lot of Highbury
SirFredperry - how does the current team compare to the 61 team?
This has been the best team i can remember in my lifetime - although that wouldnt be too hard!

Can Spurs win the title?
Yes, obviously.
Will Spurs win the title?
If they get all the luck in the world and both Utd and City crumble like Newcastle did under Keegan, then yes they might just win it.
Back to reality though, Spurs simply don't have the squad depth to mount a serious challenge, imagine if they lost the best 3 players they have, like City currently have (Kompany, Toure, Silva), they'd struggle to beat Bolton.
If however, they manage to keep their current squad and can add a couple more top players, then they would be serious challengers next season.

I think they have a real chance.
Both City and United have shown frailties at times this season. United's first team isn't anything like as good as it has been in previous title-winning seasons. City, for all their big spending, have shown they can go off the boil - and more importantly will be without Toure and Kompany for a while.
I can see both teams slipping up again before the end of the season and if they do, Spurs are well placed to take advantage.
I actually hope they do win the league, just to quieten all the cocky Utd fans and to prove to City's owners that money doesn't guarantee success.

Re: Can Spurs win the title?
I think they have the same issue as Liverpool did in 08/09 season, an excellent first team, in fact probably the second best in the league right now behind City, but the players that back them up are good, but not great.
Injuries could take their toll, losing any two of Adebayor, Modric, Van Der Vaart, Parker or Bale could be catastrophic.

Like Leak says, they have a great squad and play well as a team but I'm just not convinced by their depth.
I'd stick my neck out and say they'll finish third.

If you said they would finish 1st or 5th, that would be really sticking your neck out.

Re: Can Spurs win the title?
I think Spurs have an exceptional squad as regards depth:
Here is 2 teams:
Friedel/Gomes;
Walker/Kaboul, Dawson/King/Bassong/Gallas, Assou-Ekottu/Rose;
Lennon/Krankjar, Modric/Parker/Huddlestone/Sandro, Bale/Townsend;
Van Der Vaart/Defoe/Adebayor/Pavlyuchenko.
Thats 22 top class players........................

Re: Can Spurs win the title?
I've been a fan now for 18 years and this season has to be the most exciting time to be a Spurs fan,the current first team is the best starting 11 I have seen and yes of course we have a chance of winning the title, however we have to remain levelheaded. Spurs have always had that ability to shoot themselves in the foot and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, however much like Manchester city we have shown a gritty resolve and picked up many points that in previous seasons we would have dropped. If spurs can maintain this level of performance and keep key players free of injury then in my opinion the skies the limit. There are some massive games coming up against Liverpool Arsenal and both Manchester clubs and if spurs can come through those games relatively unscathed then why not?

Re: Can Spurs win the title?
Yes I believe they can, they need to approach the big games though against City, Utd etc and not have the fear factor that they've often had in previous years against the big clubs.
You look at the first team at Spurs and the midfield blows away Man Utd's man for man.

Re: Can Spurs win the title?
Yes. In my Premiership ultimate team, I'd have:
Man City's back 5
Spurs' midfield 5
Rooney
They'll beat Man Utd at WHL and if they get a point at the Etihad or more, they're be in a great position.
And, coming from a Man Utd fan, if Spurs were to win the title, I would begrudge them that at all. Great team, great football.

Shame Spurs dropped points today, the critics will claim this proves they ain't up to it but their form speaks for itself, they can't win every week and while they should be winning this type of game it's not a disaster, need to get back on track next week though
Can they win it? Definitely
Will they win it? Possibly

i think they have a serious chance, they play brilliant football, but i think they will finish 3rd, with the 2 manchester sides 1st and 2nd.

Re: Can Spurs win the title?
Was at the Wolves game. Spurs were not at their best and it was two points dropped, but Tottenham have consistently avoided the banana skins that the other top sides experienced over Christmas so one drawn game is not a disaster.
Spurs actually strengthened their position over Arsenal whose defeat in Wales shows, as Harry said, that playing Swansea is not easy. May be the draw Spurs had against Swansea was a point gained rather two lost.
Tough matches coming up, but Man U face some tough ones as well and I think that at present EVERYONE IS VULNERABLE - and that's not a situation we've had very often in recent years.
As for comparisons with the 61 side, the current team is not as good although they are probably the best Tottenham side for many years. Other good Spurs sides? - 1962/63, 1967, 70-72, 80-84, 86/87 are among them.

Re: Can Spurs win the title?
I can't feel Spurs have a real challenge in them, and I think they'll fall away to battle with Chelsea/Liverpool and Arsenal for 3rd/4th. But I would say a top 4 finish looks likely.
I think they'll drop points when they play the big sides, and as I recall many of them are away from home, too.

Re: Can Spurs win the title?
I woul dsay they definitely have the quality to do it...but I'm not sure they have the mentality to get them through quite yet.
I do enjoy the way they play. It's good to see different teams getting involved in the push for the title...makes the league more exciting. So for that reason I hope their run continues.

Re: Can Spurs win the title?
If Liverpool don't get into the top four, it will be their home form that will be to blame. If you're gonna drop points at least win one and then lose one rather than having SEVEN draws. Personally, can't see Liverpool making the top four, but there's probably a case to be made for any of Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs making it.

Re: Can Spurs win the title?
Up until the Wolves game i was saying to people at work and my Dad (who is a Spurs fan) that Tottenham have got to be worth a fiver for winning the league! They looked on form and playing well.
After the draw at Wolves i'm a little bit more hesitant now BUT I still dont see any reason why they couldnt win the league this year. They have the players to do so i think, they just need to get wins against their rivals for the title and not drop points where they shouldnt. I guess you could say that about any club tbh...but anyway, i would still stick a fiver on Spurs to win the league this year. Got to be worth a go! And this from a United fan

Re: Can Spurs win the title?
longrangeeffort. Always worth a punt against your own team. If your side muck it up then you make money; if they are successful you don't care about losing your bet. I reckon Man U might have to win at the Etihad to beat City. At least there's a big consolation if you come 2nd, 3rd or even 4th these days.
When you had to win it to be in it, it was the European Cup. Now it's the Champions League you can come....fourth. Hilarious and nearly as silly as calling the old Second Division The Championship.
