Just thought I would set up a thread to discuss the latest Book, As I can't discuss it on other threads because of spoilers.
what were your thoughts on the book. How do you think the next book will pan out, who will end up on the Iron throne.

I'm a bit nervous about posting what I think on here in case someone who hasn't read it accidently clicks on it, so I shall spoiler it (so don't click on it if you haven't read this book!)

- The ending; I can't believe it!! John Snow better not be dead! I really enjoyed this book, thought the first half was a bit slow, but the 2nd half was superb.So many unanswered questions though. What's happened to Jaime? To Rickon? etc etc. So many new plots and threads to it, just love it. Hope we don't have too long to wait for the next one!

- I was beliving the whole theory of John Snow being the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, with Eddard keeping the secret to protect John from King Robert, But with the end of ADWD I'm not so sure now. After the begining of the book it's got me thinking he has jumped to some other body.

- i finished this the other week, my theory with the john snow bit is the red lady (cant spell her name at the min) will bring him back like the other red preist did with beric dondarrion and cat. might play a part with the white walkers if they think he's dead also. this is just speculation though, not read any sites to see what they are saying. be a shame if he is actually dead. dont see this as any different as when ayra and bran and rickon "died"

- I love the whole idea of the ruined lands and the people slowly turning to stone. I'll be interested if we do learn any more about that, otherwise curious to see what's happening in Dorn. I can't remember too much from that part of the book so may have to go and reread it.

- Really enjoyed DWD. Bit shocked by the endings though. Did not expect Jon to come to such an abrupt end ! Is there a way back for him ? Other than just a full time union with his direwolf...Have to say it didn't look good for him with several knives stuck in and apparently no-one around to rescue him or treat his wounds , but if he is out of the picture who will give us an eye witness account of goings on at and beyond the wall ?
Since the first book , where loved characters were ruthlessly and permanently killed off , George has rather perfected the art of apparently disposing of major players at the end of a chapter only to reveal their escape when next returning to that part of the story. In fact one might say he has started to overdo this trick: The "death" of Bran & Rickon shocked everyone , though I must admit I was looking for the loophole from the start and was not too surprised by the solution ; I nearly stopped reading when I thought he had done for Arya - think he cheated a bit there , even the blunt end of the Hound's axe would have had a high risk of fatality ! - but when he pretended to bump off Davos I just laughed...saw the answer a mile off and could have written that explanation

Have to give him full marks for the Mance Rayder thing though...
As compelling and rich says above , Melisandre may have something up her sleeve to save the day , though I hope he can be revived rather more completely than poor old Lady Catelyn , whose "revival" I could have done without !
As for Stannis , I am not 100% sure : would never believe anything the Bolton bast**d says , and it seems rather a casual , off screen way of writing out a major character , but perhaps he just is no longer required for the story.
Speculating is fun , but George keeps taking storylines and characters off in all sorts of unexpected directions , so I guess we will just have to wait for the next volume to settle our questions , and raise a set of new ones ! Still haven't really got a clue where it will all end

- The books are great, even though I don't care for half the plotlines. If GRRM never mentioned Arya, Stoneheart, Bran, Stannis, Ramsay Bolton or Reek again, I'd be one happy man! For me, the Aegon storyline is the one I'm looking forward to most, alond with the events at the Wall, Sam the Slayer, and of course Littlefinger in the Vale. But if we have a book to read before Christmas 2014 I'd be amazed

- I watched the 1st Season of Game of Thrones in 2010 and loved it! So I bought all the books and have recently just finished the last one.
I took a long breather between 1st and 2nd parts of a DWD because i found Feast of Crows and 1st part of a DWD quite tiring to read. I had been expecting these books to be setting up new characters, plots etc as the previous book had finished so dramatically and so many people died.
I love the battle between Little Finger and Varys. I always imagine Little Finger as a Varys wannabe who is selfish in his actions unlike Varys who always seemed to have a nobel purpose. This is now obviously Ageon, the true heir to the Iron throne who Varys has always known existed. But Martin very cleverly puts readers off the scent by having Varys arrange the attempted assassination and spying of Danerys in the first book. Obviously Varys would want her dead because she is a threat to Ageon.
I know the supposed death of Jon Snow is the big cliffhanger at the end of DWD, but I am actually more interested in the plight of characters such as Davos, Sam, Sansa, Bran but I love Tyrion and some of the rough edged characters such as the Hound and Jamie.
However, the one character who I really want answers about is Benjen Stark!!! Went ranging and never came back again. He's been missing since the beginning of the series. I think that he will appear soon and it will be very interesting to see what role he plays in the story. Will Jon Snow morph into his uncle? Is Jon Snow Azhor Ahai? A Targaryen? The dragon has three heads...
My theory is, Danerys and Ageon are not Azhor Ahai and it is Jon Snow. I think he is theoffspring of Rhaegar and Lyanna Stark who Eddard Stark concealed at Winterfell as his Bar Steward. Eddard Stark was too honourable a man to cheat on his wife.
So many questions to be answered and some fascinating plots to come. Hurry up Martin, get a bloody move on!

- Theory is sound. I reckon they'll do the usual thing at the wall, burn his body to prevent him becoming a white walker. Similar to Daenerys burning with Drogo in the first book he'll survive the burning being the son of a dragon type thing. (My theory anyway)
