glad to see whitten in the centres as i fell he has really earned his spot, not so sure about the humphreys call as he has been so up and down recently, but i suppose why mess about with a formula that has got us this far, just hope marshy gets a good run out off the bench, i dont know why paddy Mac isnt on the bench as he seem to have recovered from injury and would have been a safer option than Macklin, probably due to lack of game time.
i really think we can win this one, its going to take everything we have but these boys are on fire at the moment and are on the verge of doing something really special for ulster rugby!
not sure of the Clermont line up yet but i will update this topic when it is released!
Re: Ulster Vs Clermont teams
No Paddy McCallistair?
How much has Whitten played at 13 before? I'm assuming Spence isn't match fit?
Looks ok though, lets smash these guys! SUFTUM!

Nothing to do with it.
Macklin is on the bench because he is a TH

I'm very happy with this. No time to make unnecessary changes or experiments. There is enough versatility within the squad to change things mid-game if necessary. Whitten at 13 holds no worries at all. Expect Monsieur Rougerie to have a few aches on Sunday morning.
Now it's all about the attitude of the players. If from 1-23 they can return home and honestly say I gave everything for Ulster out on the pitch then I will be delighted and proud. If that gets us a favorable result then that will be magic.

4:20?...need to check, its after the Leinster game and before the Munster one I think.
Well said Rava. If we play our best I'll be happy, we've already done ourselves proud. A positive result would be a bonus but this is a great opportunity to measure ourselves against the very best. I hope the lads just go out and enjoy it.

Phew Rodders!
I can just imagine the scene of you getting all set to switch on at 4:15 to discover the 1st half nearly over.
(And Ulster's TBP already in the bag !!!!)

Just hope they dont get complacent and think a bonus point is enough need to go out and win like they did against Leicester pity they cant replicate the atmosphere

Clermont's squad should be fresher than Ulster's as they rested players against Aironi. That might be the difference between the two as well as home advantage.

I know theyll want to win as a win in France will be huge for them and give them great momentum but if theyre within 7 of Clermont going into the last 5 or 10 mins do you think theyll keep pushing or try and run down the clock? With the attacking threat Clermont have its dangerous either way

Marty, if that were the situation it would depened if they had the same number of tries as Clermont. I think if we finish within 7 and have the same number of tries, we quailfy as group winners?!

I've always thought N Hines, is very yellow card prone, hopefully a bit of winding him up from Muller and co wouldn't go amiss to see if he can do the usual and see red, and them get a yellow

its part of every sport, here check it out for the gentlemanly game of cricket
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sledging_(cricket)
and don't say there isn't a team in the world that doesn't do it. Even Schoolboys wind each other up. The under 8's tag rugby prob wind each other up too, its a part of sport.

quite true and he's been lucky not been yellowed against leicester from being regularly on the wrong side of the ruck...
that's probably why Hines and Cudmore rarely start together !

Are Leinster, Munster and Ulster all playing tomorrow? Will probably have to catch up the Leinster/Munster games on TG4.

Wounded Tigger???
Although clearly from a different species to the brilliant fans who travelled to Ravenhill last weekend.
On the "What happens if we both end up on 20 points?" thing.
It does go to the head to head , points then tries then point diff, but we still couldn't be separated it goes on Total tries scored.

Meh, I find them rather boring myself. But I do agree if Clermont "turn it on" they could of course beat us quite badly. Though I have no doubt Ulster will truly be fired up for this one. I see plenty of big hits and lovely tries from both sides (but mostly from Ulster )

Re: Ulster Vs Clermont teams
Have to say, looking at the Clermont team, the thing that sticks out of course is their very dangerous back-line. I mean, all of them are very dangerous and will punish us for any defensive mistake we make. But looking at the pack, I think ours is much better. From 1-8, the Ulster pack has been exceptional lately, every single one of them. The same can't be said for most teams.
I think our back-line will do okay too. We have the experience in guys like Pienaar, Wallace, Terblanche and Trimble, who won't let us down. We can be just as dangerous.

If Ulster win in a fair contest then they deserve all the accolades they get. And I'll come on here and say as much. I just don't think it will happen.
Ulster have a great pack. Ferris is the best 6 in the world in my opinion. A world cup winning tighthead and a class lock too. If they keep it tight, win their set piece and don't get involved in a chuck around it will give them a better chance.
But this is Clermont. They're a powerhouse. Bonnaire is class. Faure and Hines are solid and never take a backward step. Malzieu in my opinion is the most ubnderrated winger in world rugby. Defensively solid. Great under the high ball. Like lightning, good hands and a clinical finisher. Parra and Skrela are a great halfback combo. Parra will do his fair share of kicking too which will keep Clermont in Ulsters half. They'll score tries tomorrow. How will Ulster outscore them? Having said all this, I have never seen Clermont play or ever seen a rugby ball so what do I know?
