Yeah given it was reproted last week that Jaywardne was taking over this doenst come as much of a shiock, Id also assumed thats why Jawardene had been dropped for the last test ...theres a lot of politics and probably a bit of upset going on here.

Not a very good captain anyway, and he is right to concentrate on his batting.
Re: Dilshan quits as Sri Lankan captain
to sack a coach 4 months into a 2 year contract is absouelty ridiclous.. however not suprised dilshan was stripped of captaincy, he was an awful captain.

Dilshan was poor as captain. I'm surprised Jayawardene wants to take it on again, given his own recent poor form, and the high turnover rate/amount of politics involved but I guess he feels that it might lead to an upturn in his form and knows that he is the right man for the job. Of course, we don't yet know whether this is a permanent appointment or not.

im not suprised Mahela wants it back, i think he just needed a break in the first place..he was a very good player and is well respected, him and sanga as skipper and vice were good
however where does this leave Matthews? he was vice to dilshan and didnt get it....

He's still vice for the WSC tournament. Which implies he's OK with backing up Mahela. Perhaps he's still got "next in line" cred?
All of which is purely speculation
Back in NZ I used to work with one of Marvin Attapatu's cousins, and used to get a bit of SL team gossip. Not any more. Pity, as some of it was pretty juicy.

Mathews isn't ready yet - you could argue he is for one-day/T20 captaincy as a sort of apprenticeship - but certainly isn't Test captaincy material yet.
He's a good player whose performed well on quite a few occasions but I don't think it's really clear yet whether he is:
- A top order batsman and part-time bowler
- A middle-order batsman and semi-regular bowler
- A genuine all-rounder who goes in and gives it a tonk
There also remains the question over his poor injury record

Re: Dilshan quits as Sri Lankan captain
how is it poor?
he had one bad injury...
he is a genuine all-rounder, however he needs to recover fullly from his injury!
