A test side of players who were harshly dropped from the past 10 years
If you had to make a test side, out of players who were harshly dropped using players from the past 10 years what would your side look like?
this would be mine:
1.Tharanga Paranitvana
2.Phil Jacques( averaged around 50 in test cricket)
3.Ramnarwesh Sarwan
4.Mohammed Yousuf (if you take out the bans
5.JP Duminy
6.Junaid Siddique (had to throw him in there somehwere
7.Chris Read (just after 06/07 ashes)
8.Ashley Giles
9.Lonwabo Tsotsobe (in test cricket)
10.Matthew Hoggard
11.Jason Gillespie (scored 200* as nightwatchman, bowled really well and hasnt played since)

Siddique
Kemar Roach, Sulieman Benn, Chaminda Vaas, Tanvir Ahmed, Wahab Riaz, and Steven Finn are a few more I can think of.

Hoggard argument has been answereed by whats happened since and by him himslef now hes being honest. Dropping him and Harmison at that point is what gave England the ability to bring through the curent stable of bowlers. Hes admitted himslef taht in hindsight he was suffering from depression and not a positive infleunce on the squad. Sure they couldve sent him off for a cup of tea and a hug then bought him back as a 30 something but he was dropped on merit and with an eye to the future. I dont see it as harsh, hes hardly set the world alight at Leicestershire where its far from difficult to stand out.
You think hed be better than the likes of Broad and Anderson are now ? I doubt it.

What about Monty Panesar getting dropped prior to the first test at Brisbane in 2006.

Phil Hughes is currently ranked ahead of Eoin Morgan on the ICC test batsmen table. Ouch.

Where did I say he should still be in the side? He was better than Darren Pattinson, that's for certain. He had two bad Tests and was out. Harmison at least continue to be a fringe player for the next 18 months, despite being a less dependable player.
I'm aware of the other circumstances, but Hoggard was a valuable member of the side and it was a situation that should have been reviewed after the tour and at the start of the summer Tests. Hoggard said he heard nothing from England after the tour, if I remember his autobiography correctly.
So he went from nailed-on starter to not even being considered, in the space of a game. That's harsh.

After New Zealand away Hoggard was probably still in the mix until Harmison broke Hoggard's thumb. Choosing Pattinson to play at Hoggard's home ground was a mistake.

True, a mistake that they admitted afterward and reviewed selection prcedures based upon. But the initial dropping of Hoggard from the side was not unfair...nor was the decision to move on from them.
Tough on the individuals yes, but not without merit. I dont think you can call a sensible cricketting decision harsh.

Making the mistake of dropping Darren Pattinson could well come back to haunt England when Australia tour England, as James Pattinson will be looking to exact revenge on behalf of the Pattinson family.
