What would happen IF England lost to Italy?
First topic message reminder :
What would happen IF England lost to Italy?
IMO it wouldn’t be the worst result in the rugby world, and here’s why.
Italy are now a very well organised team not like they used to be in their 1st few seasons in the 6 nations when they beat Scotland and Wales.
Italy in Rome is a very different animal compared to when they play away, the Italians are a very proud and passionate nation and this shows when they step onto a rugby pitch, what they lack in ability they make up for in determination.
The Italians use a different ball compared to the other home nations (Mitre) as the RWC showed some players are very particular about their balls, and with good reason.
Most of them play their rugby in France which as we all know is a tough league when compared to the likes of the Rabo.
I’m not making ready made excuses for England if we were to lose to the Italians, but we should be aware that the new/inexperianced England squad face a very tough task to put the Italians away in Rome, so don’t be surprised if we lose to them for the 1st time in our proud and distinguished history.
I hope whatever happens that we stick by this team as once a few key players are back I think we have a very solid base for the next few years.

I all honesty if Italy did win I would laugh my self incontinent. I would also be very very proud of Italy. If they can beat France and Wales they can sure the hell beat England.

Careful Woodstock, you shouldn't publically admit you will laugh your a..e off, you need to be a little diplomatic.
Rather say.
If Italy manages to beat England, I will be very happy for them and share my commisserations with the england fans, I might crack a little smile, even though I will attempt not to crack up in pieces whilst falling of my chair.

so do people want to change there view on my bitter celt comment!
There are people on this board that are obviously bitter, that makes my laugh. There teams losing will never make me laugh. I care about watching good games as a neautral, and i care about england- to many on here are like the above- Eirebilly you need to stop thinking every post is about you!!
and stop using the' i support england cricket team' argument- not just for the fact that the england cricket team is actually england and wales, and even more relaistically the 'TEST' team is actually more like a UK and Ire team(please lets not talk about saffas as well -as true as it is will just loose the point i am making). You sound like the type that shouts from the roof tops 'i am not racist i have black mates'

1. You were the one making sweeping statements about Bitter Celts, not i. I simply stated that there were poor fans from all sets of fans and no sweeping generalisations should be made.
2. That is a seriously poor comment to make, distgusting even. I hope that the mods realise just what you are trying to do on this forum sooner rather than later.

That said, I'll be cheering on England.
It would not surprise most Rugby fans ans would send Fleet Street into a bit of a frenzy. It could happen and that is the joy of the 6N's.Not sure which country has least players of origin but I reckon it will be close on both counts.
It's generally what happens when people from other countries/principalities settle in other countries. Enjoy Eastbourne?

Re: What would happen IF England lost to Italy?
Exactly Mystiroakey, I dread to think how much time I've wasted watching Ireland Scotland and Wales trying to beat the All Blacks!
Yet I always wish them well and will continue to do so, as being an un-bitter England fan I know what a great feeling it is to beat these guys, I still regard our win in New Zealand in June 2003 (13-15) as a bigger achievement than winning the RWC that very year.
I just don't get why the some Celts are so bitter towards England?

Some Celts, not the Celts en masse! How hard would it be to type 'some Celts' and thus avoid generalising?

Care to chat about the 2004 tour of NZ and Australia when you remained tryless?? Guess not. I watched both games in NZ live and that was the first time I laughed myself incontinent, same team humbled to the point of many guffaws AND that baldy idiot still picked them for the 2005 Lions pathetic.

It seems the Six Nations brings out the worst in some.
Perhaps we should rather have the RWC every year, it does seem quite a bit more civil amonst the home nations then.

Re: What would happen IF England lost to Italy?
Anyway, back on topic.
England have a very tough away match in Rome, France found out last year that Italy are a very difficult team and lost. Ireland were very lucky to come away with some points.
Italy has not been a given for a few years but at home they are certainly a team that will cause all of the 6N teams problems.
There really is no shame in loosing to Italy in Rome.

no sweeping generlisation when i use the term bitter celts. i refer to the 'bitter celts'- not the celts on the whole. And yes you may not like the 'i have black mates argument', but its the truth, you use the 'i support england cricket team' in the exact same way someone would if they used the black mate argument. You use it to try and defend you are not bitter towards the english, which in all fairness i dont even think you are, you dont need to try and explain yourself, just stop taking comments made to others so personally, half the time its just banter

Why? Please tell me. It seems as if others can call Wales a joke and the crux of endless and pointless posts (team and players).
Is it illegal to want England to lose to Italy? I will be supporting Italy I want them to win, what's wrong with that? I am sure a little pee will come out when Italy win with all the celebrations.
SO please tell me why I can not react to the endless wummers from England?

1. When you use the term 'Bitter Celts' it is as sweeping generalisation, maybe choose your words more carefully.
2. That is still an absurd comment to make towards me and i find it seriously distasteful
As for not taking comments personally, well when you call me 'anti English' and refer to me as a 'raving looney special with nothing to say' simply because i dared say that Italy would feel that they have a good chance against England then i fail to see how i cant take your comments personally?

I think people have to remember how far Italy have come since they entered the 6 nations, they are a well orgainised unit capable of beating anyone apart form the big three SH teams.
Woodstock - at least my Country have beaten them, how many Irish, Scottish and Welshmen have gone to their graves never seeing a win against the All Blacks!

Not as many as the Englishmen who have popped their clogs since 1966 alone.
As I have always said, the AB's are secondary to the Grand Slam and beating France.

Ouch a comment about football!
I'm a rugby fan mate and find it rather amusing that they are rubbish.
I wouldn't have brought the All Black thing up if I had known what a sore subject it was with SOME of our Celtic cousins

Re: What would happen IF England lost to Italy?
I would be surprised if Italy won this weekend to be honest. However this is their best chance yet and of course they have a fine pack who will win their fair share of ball. The key for Italy is keeping the scoreboard ticking over and we would all be surprised if they do that with flowing rugby and scoring tries. A rolling maul yes, but the backs creating is unlikely. Their new French coach is apparently well respected and wants Italy to play a more expansive style, which is good for all fans to watch. It remains to be seen if they can offer more than Scotland when it comes to taking their chances. And England's discipline will be crucial as Italy's victories have largely come via the boot. SL has made an immediate impact in this area, but tomorrow will show if England have really improved or whether Murrayfield was a 1 off.
We saw very little of England in attack last time out so plenty of question marks for themselves, but with our back 3 I would like to think we can create and finish slightly better than Italy. And hopefully Wales can win to set up a tasty Twickenham encounter.

Italy's biggest problem this weekend will be the pace of the English back three, if Italy can find a way to contain them and not give them space on the outside(without compromising the midfield) they might have a chance, but if
England can get the ball to Ashton and Foden in Space, Uh oh.

the first isnt a sporting argument bitilong, its how he justifies opinions he has or others have against him.
we all know that the majority of argments and bitter comments has nothing to do with sport but identity and politicts, sport is an outlet for certain people to express there ignorance.

Re: What would happen IF England lost to Italy?
England have struggled in Italy a few times and mainly this comes from the Italians playing with passion and really taking it to England. How many times have we seen apparent underdogs win matches because they seemed to want it more. Italy just need to throw the kicthen sink at England and get off to a good start and then it will be a close game. If England start fast then they could win at a canter. When England play Wales there will be an element of fear for England as they will be underdogs (unless some crazy results come in this weekend) and therefore I would expect them to come out and play with real fire. Against Italy it is often hard to replicate that. Whilst England will want to win you cannot always play with the same intensity and this is where England need to be wary. They must match Italy's aggression in the opening period or things could go awry.

Re: What would happen IF England lost to Italy?
All, I think this thread has passed it's sell by date and devolved into a rather pathetic collection of windups, over-reactions, misinterpretations, bickering and personal attacks.
Several of you (from several different countries) need to take a good hard look at yourselves in the mirror.
