What would happen IF England lost to Italy?
First topic message reminder :
What would happen IF England lost to Italy?
IMO it wouldn’t be the worst result in the rugby world, and here’s why.
Italy are now a very well organised team not like they used to be in their 1st few seasons in the 6 nations when they beat Scotland and Wales.
Italy in Rome is a very different animal compared to when they play away, the Italians are a very proud and passionate nation and this shows when they step onto a rugby pitch, what they lack in ability they make up for in determination.
The Italians use a different ball compared to the other home nations (Mitre) as the RWC showed some players are very particular about their balls, and with good reason.
Most of them play their rugby in France which as we all know is a tough league when compared to the likes of the Rabo.
I’m not making ready made excuses for England if we were to lose to the Italians, but we should be aware that the new/inexperianced England squad face a very tough task to put the Italians away in Rome, so don’t be surprised if we lose to them for the 1st time in our proud and distinguished history.
I hope whatever happens that we stick by this team as once a few key players are back I think we have a very solid base for the next few years.

What would happen?
Italy would just have done their 'Ireland' on England and denied them a potential GS.
Plus they'd feel very happy that they got revenge for the humiliation in London last time.

To answer the question, not much would happen at all. Italy were very very close last time at home against England and for me the game this year is 50 50 anyway. As usual when it's 50 50 I go with home advantage so my moneys on Italy anyway (figuratively and literally).

As long as England go down in a blaze of glory and not just the normal dull fest I won't mind.

After this weekends performance, if you were to pick a Northern Hemisphere team to take on a Southern Hemisphere team, how many English players would be in the team?
Oh, and this is not a joke, I honestly want to know people's thought...

As long as we don't become the second side to lose to them at home. That WOULD be embarassing

Thats a very insightful post
If its played in the NH then few English would make the squad on current form this is true, but if it was played down-under then 15 English men would be my pick as we know how to beat the SH teams down there unlike our Celtic cousins.

That is very true, the like's of Wilkinson, Thompson, Back, Tindal etc. Have had great succes over the last few years beating the the SH teams and so have France. But let us not dwindle in the past. On current form, from LAST weekend's games.. I struggle to find an English player making the 15...

At the moment I can't think of a single English player who would get into the Wales or Ireland side let alone a combined NH team.
Foden is about as close as it gets but on present form Kearney and Halfpenny are above him and Id have to go with Kearney tbh.
Ashton may get some support but North, Bowe, Trimble and both French wingers are on better form.
I can't think of anyone else that comes close.

I agree with you, I hope England, Scotland and Italy find form, we, as spectators want to see a low error count game, unlike the Scotland and England game... England won, due to Scotland's poor clinical judgment...

Re: What would happen IF England lost to Italy?
In my opinion Corbisiero and Cole were as good as any props on show this weekend, and although Hartley didn't rampage around the pitch as much as I would have liked, he had a very solid game too. If I were picking a Northern Hemisphere team to go down south, an English 1, 2 and 3 wouldn't be a terrible way to start. Foden would have to be close to any side selected, and I think Barritt put in a great shift in defence (would have liked to see more of him in attack, but he was never given the ball) and would work well in a midfield with Priestland at 10 and Rougerie at 13.
There's arguments for a few English players on the back of this weekend's matches, even if as a collective we didn't get it together.

Re: What would happen IF England lost to Italy?
In reply to the OP, you can look it up in 'Romans', from memory I think it went:
Yea mighty Alps would be rent, a great flood from Genoa to Modena, Vesuvius erupt, the cherubs of Pavrotti would sing the deeds of Roman heroes who vanquished the white hordes out of the dark frozen land of The Angles, and then waken from their dreaming in mighty tears enough to swell the Tiber to the sea.
I think that might happen.
