Capello Resigns!
Fabio Capello has quit as England manager, the Football Association announced on Wednesday night.
Capello resigned following a meeting with FA chairman David Bernstein and general secretary Alex Horne at Wembley Stadium.
An FA statement read: "The Football Association can confirm that Fabio Capello has today resigned as England manager."
"This follows a meeting involving FA chairman David Bernstein, FA general secretary Alex Horne and Fabio Capello at Wembley Stadium.
"The discussions focused on the FA board's decision to remove the England team captaincy from John Terry, and Fabio Capello's response through an Italian broadcast interview.
"In a meeting for over an hour, Fabio's resignation was accepted and he will leave the post of England manager with immediate effect."
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12016/7497815/Capello-quits-as-England-boss
So where does this leave England?
Who next for the job?
Obviously wor 'Arry is favourite for the job, but can you see him leaving Spurs when they are doing so well in the league?

Hardly suprising given the last couple of days. Seeing as we only have 1 friendly before end of the season. Can see a caretaker for the Holland game, then Harry at the end of the season.

Good for him A total c0ck up from start to finish. Still haven't seen an adequate explanation for not getting this into the Courts a bit more sharpish so that it would effectively be a legal decision, not a football one.
'Arry would be crazy to take it - FA in disarray. And deservedly so.

Who will England employ now to big up as the man to take them to glory and then a year later blame for underperforming?

I think Capello might have well and truly buggered us here. Can't see Redknapp leaving Spurs mid season. Can he do a dual role? Or do the FA go for a temporary coach or appoint someone on a short term deal for the EURO's?

They deserve to be buggered.
the English FA deserve to be buggered
The English media deserve to be buggered
And most of all, the English players deserve to be buggered
Because its never the players' fault and never will be...

Re: Capello Resigns!
'Arry cleared, Capello resigns ... Would have preferred Capello to finish what he had started. Would prefer 'Arry to stay on at Spurs to see what he could have done with them - they are not that far from challenging for the title. The England job would be better for 'Arry towards the end of his managerial career.
ps this is in no way going to help John Terry! Capello has treated "England" badly in resigning in this way.

Could he just be attempting to save his reputation by not flopping at another tournament, that way he can get another big money job?
Surely Stuart Pearce has to be the favourite?

Because he hasn't been treated badly at all?
Sky Sports News summary of Capello's England career just a moment ago was a scandalous burial of the man. You'd be excused for thinking he lost every game he ever managed

Re: Capello Resigns!
Well, supposedly he'll be taking over for the Netherlands friendly.
He's also still the U21 manager, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him being given the England job as well. I wouldn't be too surprised if England didn't even have a permanent manager during Euro 2012.

the FA need to but out- however not the point- he still has responsibilties. unless offcourse he was told to resign- therefore forgoing a sacking for breaching contract.

Re: Capello Resigns!
Responsibilities like picking the captain?
What next? Were they going to tell him to drop Terry from the squad?
I think it'll be Pearce for the Euros. Then failing actually winning the thing, Redknapp will then replace him

its all abit sudden- we dont know the inns and outs. i total agree it should only be the managers job to choose the team and captain.

Re: Capello Resigns!
I'm not sure it's ideal for Harry or England at the mo. After the last few weeks it would be yet more bad press for England in the Euro's. then there is the fact that he had that health scare before Christmas. He might just want the summer to relax a little.
Bad news for England, yet more disarray.

I am so so happy right now and so is the rest of England! Come on Harry, your country needs you! He can do both jobs can't he up until the end of the Euros and then sort out something long term? If not him then Stuart Pearce. But I hope's it 'Arry!

Well Capello was rubbish and Euro 2012 was going to be a shower of rubbish. Wouldn't say Harry will lead us to glory but it would certainly be a breath of fresh air.

Re: Capello Resigns!
I do have a little sympathy for the way Fabio Capello has been undermined on this issue but also accept that there are exception circumstances. Maybe the FA could have dealt with the issue better and should have involved the England manager in the decision to remove the captaincy from a player.
I think Tottenham will dig their heels in (to the summer atleast) and Harry Redknapp may not be that easy or cheap to get in.
That probably leaves the FA with two options:-
1) Employ Redknapp on a part time basis until the summer when Spurs maybe more reluctant to part ways and will have time to get a new manager in. They surely wouldn't jeopardize upsetting their 3rd place/ Champions League spot now by having their manager poached.
2) Employ Stuart Pearce as temporary manager for Euro 2012 and then look for a new full time manager after that so they can build their own team towards Brazil 2014.

Re: Capello Resigns!
hmm, cant exactly blame him, when decisions are made about things like the captaincy without being consulted, it would have to make him feel undermined.
as for the next boss, it would make sense to have someone in for the euros in a short term deal, as that would give them more options, and try to find someone for the long term after the euros

that may not be as farcical as it initially seems, he is definately a cup manager, and on a short term deal could be the answer for the euros, i mean come on, he won djimi traore a champions league medal

no disrespect to rafa- nice enough bloke, goodish maanger- however we need an english in there- pearce has to have it for now!
I have no problem with foreignn managers or forign players, or even the thought process behind bringin in cappello or sven.
However we are happier with an english manager. Its all about passion the international game, and its also about the fans, we need to relate, we need to see he cares!
ok there is in all honesty one manager i would take thats foreign- The special one! but thats it- no others

Re: Capello Resigns!
I think it could be argued (ignoring moral issues) that Englands weak performance at the last world cup was due to the furore (media enhanced) surrounding John Terry's previous sacking as Englands captain - his form went right off.

I love the irony - Capello has been forced out for standing up for the fundamentals of the English legal system. The same legal system that Redknapp has just benefitted from
Then this is a country where its acceptable to boo a player who reported being racially abused, and applaud and chant for the abuser
As Alex Ferguson once said, but in a completely different context - Football. Bloody hell.
