Another of those players who learnt the game going for winners at the first oppportunity. Like all of Federer's generation they have slipped back the ranking the last 3 years and gone into oblivion...unless you bet on the physical side like Ferrer did.

He belonged to the great era of shotmakers 2004-2007.

It's a been a while since he's been able to do things he used to do like
--reach a slam final
--win tournaments
--take Murray out at a slam

Whether due to injury or age or whatever, you could see for a while his time has passed

I'd only just tipped him to win Indian Wells on the 606v2 World Tour thread. I'll have to stick with that now as a tribute.

I remember his powerfool FH. The only blemish that I see is the incident with Blake at the last Olympics.

You do not remember his racquet breaking, or his behind-wiping at FO. Very colourful player. I will miss his FH and his SHBH. Crying or Very sad

I actually watched Gonzo play somewhere on clay last week...it looked unreal!
(had withdrawal symptoms, so found it on tennis TV) I forgot who he played but I enjoyed it, must admit was a nice break from AO marathons, kind of had soul.

Sadly, I'll remember Gonzo by this, too:

I really felt sorry for Blake then.

That's no good at all, and what a crappy response,

“I mean, there is an umpire,” the Chilean said. “It was after two and a half hours and I almost didn’t feel my forehand. If I’m 100 percent sure about it, I mean, I will give it. But I’m not sure, you know.”

I.e. "I won't bother behaving, I'll allow someone else to police my misconduct".

Now i think about it, all my favorite players are waning..
Nalby, Blake, Davy, Haas, Gonzo, Youzhny (ok, he did win recently)
Fed's hanging in there but when it comes to slams he's tilting at windmills

Who are the descentdants? Well, none i guess
Dmitrov hardly progresses.. my hopes are on Dolgo and i'm not the only one i reckon

Damn, i hate the "physical era".
