The make up of a National squad
So with a lot of selection policies recently being questioned I was wondering what you, as an international rugby fan, look for in the make up of an international squad like the EPS. How big do you think a touring/training squad should be? How consistent should the composition of the squad be? How many players in each position do you like to see? Should it be the best 2-3 players in each position or is there some more important deciding factor? What about utility players, do they have a role? What mix of youth and experience? Do you have like for like replacements within your squad to keep a consistent gameplan viable or do you prefer to see different types of players in reserve?
This is an exercise in generalities. If you wish to use a specific squad and/or player to act as an example to make a specific point, please do, but do not moan about certain squads or managers please

Re: The make up of a National squad
A very good question,Squad ideally needs to be about 32 players in my view 3 hookers and scrum halves.Like for like is the way to go if possible props 2 loose head,2 tight head[preferably at least one who can cover both heads].Locks all should be proficent at basics, scrum ,lineout, restarts before playing wtq.
Back row specialists in all 3 positions 2 each, with 6/8 perhaps at least one utily.
7 is specialized.I prefer the Nz 5/8 system 1and 2 as opposed to Fh and Ic,players being inter changable skill set.Centre specialists, wings 4 ditto tho able
to cover centre or full back[at least one].Full backs specialists always,at least 4 good goal kickers,2starting one on the bench.
Continuity is important BUT,knowing when a player is past his sell by date no matter his pedigree is key.
IF a player is playing out of his skin at S15/HC level he should force his way into the squad.

Wales seem to have ditched their make up, not so much orange foundation on display these days.
