Fantasy Game for 2012 Majors, The Players, and US-based WGC's: The Cadillac Championship
First topic message reminder :
NOTE: BY POPULAR DEMAND I'M ADDING THE PLAYERS TO FILL THE GAP BETWEEN AUGUSTA AND THE US OPEN.
Rules:
There are four Major, The Players, and three US-based World Golf Championships.
For each event choose one golfer. You will not be able to choose that golfer again.
The prize-money your chosen golfer earns in the selected event accrues, notionally of course, in your account, but for that specific event only.
So, by the time of completion of the PGA Championship in August, you will have selected eight players and, with good judgement or good fortune or both, have accrued eight pay cheques. The fantasy contestant with the highest accrued earnings is the winner.
For each event's new thread the contestants will be shown in alphabetical order with their earnings to date and golfers no longer available. I will edit each thread at least daily to show selections made.
The remaining events are:
The Masters in April, The Players in May, US Open in June, The Open Championship in July, WGC Bridgestone in August, PGA Championship in August.
The prize money will be the same as for the Match Play, so this breakdown will offer some idea what to expect! No cut!! But no notional earnings for anyone withdrawing during the event. Official Money only!!
2011 prizemoney, expected to be similar this year:
Winner: $1,400,000
2nd: $850K
3rd: $600K
4th: $490K
5th: $270K
9th: $140K
17th: $95K
You are advised to nominate a substitute in case there is a last minute withdrawal. If the sub plays you may not be use him again, but the original selection who withdrew can be used again.
These are your selections and money earned to date. Remember, you can't make the same pick again this year. (Please check that your name is on the list; all are welcome so hope any who haven't done so will be in touch . . . . . ) If you didn't make a selection for the MatchPlay or Cadillac, you are still welcome to participate; with five notable exceptions, you won't be far behind!

Nice quiet start from Bubba. Understated. At his best. Keep it going son.

Lots of wind, lots of water, just the recipe for fluctuating fortunes.
Doesn't necessarily excuse at least two 3-putts in his first ten holes by lw1 though.

So, Adam Scott leading and only one punter, Skydriver, picked him.
No-one has Dufner or Bjorn, but SIX have Schwartzel.
I'll be on the road the next couple of days so unlikely there'll be any (notional) prizemoney updates until Monday.

I'm liking braddely as my pick a solid round, 3 more of those and I'll take may $ and run. Interesting thought and something I think makes this fantasy league all the more interesting. The overall winner at the end can have done so and accumulated enough $ to win without actually picking a player that wins an event.

I would like to humbly apologise to Lee Westwood for picking him for this tournament. He was doomed from that moment on . From here on in I will pick Americans just to give our lads a better chance

I'll admit to insider info on this tournament. Me and Bubba talked last night and we decided today he should make his move. 62 will do nicely.

FairPlay Mr Rose. Poor Bubba must be gutted, letting a 3 shot lead slip away that's rough.

Re: Fantasy Game for 2012 Majors, The Players, and US-based WGC's: The Cadillac Championship
Hi All,
As mentioned on Friday, I have been on the road for the past three days. Watching some TV golf but not on-line.
Just to clarify with the Toms and Woods situations, they will collect a last-place cheque for qualifying, but withdrawing.
But it is clearly stipulated in the thread above:
"No notional earnings for anyone withdrawing during the event. Official money only!"
Bad news for oldparwin and supporters of Tiger Woods but them's the rules. (I believe Toms with drew on his 3rd hole of Round 3 after a recurrence of a back tweak he incurred during his pre-round warm up.)
No-one chose Justin Rose and it looks as if WillyGilly is this week's winner having selected Bubba Watson. Three played their McIlroy card.
I will post the official prizemoney from this week later, Monday morning at the latest, and publish a leaderboard thread later on Monday.
Shocking really, that the first two winners are both in the owgr top 30, but neither Mahan nor Rose were selected.
On to The Masters.

Re: Fantasy Game for 2012 Majors, The Players, and US-based WGC's: The Cadillac Championship
Is it just me or is other people's pleasure at watching a great tournament unfold being slightly dictated by how your fantasy player and, more importantly, your reserve is doing?
Spent most of the first day kicking myself as an imperious Garcia took to the course like a duck to water before thanking the stars after he turned into the ugly duckling...and then the final joy as Bradley hashes the last to fall below Donald (who I barely saw all week) and someone that no-one has chosen wins so keeping it close. Can't remember getting quite so excited about 6th place before.
Inspired pick by WillyGilly though on someone who blows very hot and cold.
Roll on The Masters - anyone else reviewing their thought of Tiger as first choice?

Still plenty of time for others to enter and, if like Lairdy you miss once, a good result will catch you up quickly!
Will post The Masters thread two weeks today - if you think you might be away and/or otherwise unable to post, no problem with choosing a player and sub well in advance.

Kwini
Have decided to put the kibosh on the American Masters challenge.
I'll take Mickleson with Woods as reserve (that should count both of them out of the reckoning)

Hi martin,
I'll be posting the thread in the next day or so, field 99% complete and it looks as if you have a strong pick there! I'll be sure to include it in the new thread.
Cheers,
