Fred Titmus RIP
Sad to hear of death of Fred Titmus. Sounds like a real character. Remarkable that he played his last first class match at the age of 49. The reports suggest that he turned up to watch a Middlesex match and Mike Brearley the captain thought the pitch would take spin - and so he got picked.

Re: Fred Titmus RIP
I was there, and it's perfectly true, just popped into the dressing room for a cup of tea with his old pals and the next thing he knew he was playing.
There is a remarkable coincidence concerning this story ,as Fred had no kit with him,and had to borrow some from the other guys in the dressing room.
33 years prior to this he was a 16 year old on The Lord's ground staff, when out of the blue he was summoned to Bath to make his debut for Middlesex at the last minute, when the county found themselves short of players.
Fred's kit was in the wash, and he had to borrow shirts and flannels etc, from friends and team mates before catching the train from Paddington to play the next day against Somerset.
In between he played another 640 times for Middlesex ,presumably all in his own kit.
