Which is Ireland's must win game in this 6ns?
And don't give me any gobshoite (copyright Gibbo) like 'the next one'.
Ireland have not yet relinquished the old guard yet there are several youngsters straining on the leash.
You have played one and lost one (ref probs I know).
But what is the must win game?

I dont really understand the question. Are you hoping we will all say England?
The honest answer to which is Ireland must win game IS "the next one".
If you want to know who our biggest rivals are for me it ranks Wales, France, England, Italy, Scotland.

Obviously all of them as you can't expect to finish around the top of the table by loosing two games.

Exactly. I think he is trying to figure out is England v Ireland still our biggest rivalry.
Re: Which is Ireland's must win game in this 6ns?
You can say that, but it's true. In test rugby, there is no game which isn't a must-win. All of them are, especially the next. And then the next after that.
Etc.
Etc.

Sminoff I'd say Gatland would be chuffed to hear it.
Re: Which is Ireland's must win game in this 6ns?
To be in with a shot at the title we need to win 4 out of 4. So the question is silly. They all are.

They are all must win games. Any more losses and Kidney should walk the plank.

In this disjointed 6Ns which already seems to have dragged on a bit, Ireland (and France for that matter) must be already be targeting a game that they must win. And if by saying 'the next one' meaning 'Italy' then spit it out.

If I lived in your skin, I'd say Scotland over Italy.

Re: Which is Ireland's must win game in this 6ns?
why do you think any game has more relevance over another Portnoy?
If Ireland hammer England, France and Scotland yet loose to Italy it will still be a poor 6N as they will have lost 2. Likewise if they loose to anyone - I'd imagine all the games have the same weighting - hence the Next one is the most important - regardless of what teams next up
Pretty pointless question if you ask me

I thought all the games were worth the same points? How can one be more important than another?

No Portnoy, we can't afford to lose any match if we have any ambitions of lifting that trophy. We can't single one out as more important than another. What do you expect us to say?

Portnoy why dont you try explaining what you are looking for a bit better. We arent all fudging the replies. The question simply is paradoxical.
With the greatest respect, you havent phrased this the best and we cant figure it out.

Re: Which is Ireland's must win game in this 6ns?
If you are asking about rivalries as I said I would currently consider:
- Wales
- France
- England
- Italy
- Scotland
To be our biggest rivals.

All of them need to be won IMO. So......
...
The next one

Which game would be most unacceptable to lose which otherwise you'd expect to win.
I assume that you'd expect to win your home games and the one you'd find it most disturbing to lose would be against Scotland.
So to me that would be your 'must win' game.
Not difficult really.
p.s. looking at it - how come you have only won one GS? Odd years give you every chance.

Portnoy - Thanks for clearing it up. I suppose what you are really asking so is which defeat would be most unacceptable? For me that would be Italy at home.
In relation to Grand Slams - simply put we aren't able to beat France.

If you set your bar so low as Italy, then I am surprised. That's tantamount to saying coming 5th is acceptable.

So what is the game that you least like to lose given your reasonable aspirations?
For instance last season for me it would have been France. This year it will be Wales.

In which case the answer becomes every match.

At home to Italy, then. Thats the only one that we'd be heavy favourites for.

I really don't understand this at all... I have the suspicion this is some elaborate WUM so thats it from me.

A fudge question gets a fudge answer. No need to be so downright rude to peoples answers. You asked a poor question.
- Our aspirations were the Grand Slam
- We aspire to win every match
- Italy would be toughest defeat to swallow
- In order our rivalries are Wales, France, England, Scotland, Italy
You can use that info however you like.

I always thought that any team manager/ coach will tell that they only concetrate on the next game. (at this moment)no other team matters.
So the answer to the question, is the next game is the most important game for Ireland to win.

Ireland of course have to win all games from here on in. You don't win anything unless that's on your wish list.
But apart from needing to win every game to be in with a chance of being in contention come the end; the obvious one in that group that looks like it will be the toughest encounter is France away.
Biggest rivals for us, and proven to be with the............. stats of the Six Nations, sorry biltong..................... is France. Then Wales, then England.

Well, Ireland came within seconds of beating Wales. So I can assume Ireland fans who still want to win the 6 Nations are supporting England today? The, I guess, France is the target for Ireland?
