Who should be brought in to replace Scholes?
Who should be brought in to replace Scholes?
it's becoming increasingly likely that Fergie will have to buy a replacement for Scholes in the summer, but who do you think should be bought?
Re: Who should be brought in to replace Scholes?
I've always thought of Scholes as an attacking player, but strong enough to do well defensively. Everyone on the poll down to Pirlo seems a bit too flimsy imo. From the list De Rossi seems like a good shout.

I'd go for De Rossi for much the same reason as above - Scholes is fantastic going forward but can put in a hell of a tackle! The others on that list bar my choice and Pirlo don't seem to have the same defensive ability as Scholes!

Scholes, hell of a tackle?! Please tell me you're joking?!
De Rossi for me!

Scholes's tackling ability is legendary.
Legendary that he didn't double the amount of red cards he's received during his career.
Always makes me laugh when he scythes someone down, completely missing the ball and the commentator just waves it off as a typical Scholes tackle.

Agreed, it's unbelievable to see that he's made such a career for himself despite having such a distinct inability to tackle! Not that I'm complaining, the man's a legend!

I was meaning a hell of a tackle in the context you two have spoken about - absolutely brutal! Haha! Do you really ever see KaKa or Diego putting in those types of tackle?

I have voted for Sneider; he's a great player. We definitely need to buy someone with class to replace Scholesy. As much as I like us buying unknown players and making them into stars; in order to replace the calibre of Scholes we need a well established player.
Scholesy's tackles are amazing; when you can see him running towards someone its like "noooooooo" - hilarious

I agree, we need an experienced player, and also an attacking CM, so i think Sneijder would be best. But De Rossi could also be good for us.

I think Wesley Sneijder would be brought in. I don't think he's too happy and I think Ferguson now has the Ronaldo money to strengthen the squad. Sneijder would be one of the three "promised signings" but I can't put my finger on who else would be the other one. Maybe a goalkeeper and Ashley Young.

Rather than looking at who will be signed maybe the question is who would be available to sign. Some of the suggestions on the poll will never be sold by their current clubs.

Re: Who should be brought in to replace Scholes?
At the right price I would say Sneider and Kaka however think the fees would be hugely inflated
Napoli would struglle to keep hold of Hamsik if bigger clubs were trailing him, but again I think huge inflated fee
Pirlo is leaving Milan at the end of the season on a free (or selling at cut price) I believe after they've decided not to renew his contract. The only team stupid to pay the wages he'll be demanding is City. Plus I'd probably prefer to keep Scholes for another year
De Rossi would command a huge fee and wages, if Roma don't get European football he might want out
I can't see VDV or Modric going anywhere soon, however would love the latter at OT
The others I don't know much about so can't comment

I honestly think that someone like Scott Parker would thrive in the United side.

Re: Who should be brought in to replace Scholes?
Why on earth would we want de Rossi as Scholes replacement? I'm sure he could do a job in the team but his playmaking ability is roughly zero.
He'd be expensive, but Sneijder's the best option on that list. I'd go for Pirlo, but he's getting on a bit now.
The rest are either too expensive (Kaka) or simply nowhere near the class of Scholes.

I think it's got to be Sneijder to replace Scholes. Then again, I would rather Cleverly get a chance before we buy anyone to replace Scholes.

Cleverly has looked good Jack, a mate of mine has been a season ticket holder at Wigan this year and he can't speak highly enough of him. Think his opta stats for the season are supposed to be better than Jack wilshires as well

Re: Who should be brought in to replace Scholes?
I think it'll be Modric, Fergie has a tendancy to buy players who've done the business in the Premiership with lesser teams them poach them for Utd. E.G Tevez, Berba, Carrick, Van Der Saar, Yorkie etc.

Good times then. I always knew he had potential. I'll try and find a link for that.
Just looking at ESPN Soccernet, Cleverly has the same amount of assists (2) but has more goals than Wilshere. Cleverly's 4 to Wilshere's 1.

I say stick with Anderson he is still young and clearly has talent. If anyone can make him realise his potential it's Sir Alex

I'd love it to me Modric or Sneijder. Knowing Utd's current transfer policy it'll be Darren Gibson.

I think Sneijder would be perfect for Utd but for me the guy who would do the job the best is Micheal Essian

Sneijder, as long as he cuts out his diving antics. Modric is a good player but Sneijder is better all round, dead ball specialist, long shots, great technique etc.

Re: Who should be brought in to replace Scholes?
I think the fans need to understand Fergie rarely signs big name players who are at the peak of their game. Eg Veron, albeit one of the most talented players to ever grace the EPL, it just didn't work out and he essentially flopped.
Fergie would only sign a renowned English player (who is more likely to succeed in the EPL) or a realtively unknown quantity from abroad.
I personally think a new player is not essential. Anderson now needs to be given the mantle as the man to replace Scholes because he has supreme ability but just lacks the consistancy Scholes displays.
If I was really pushed I think Fergie is most likely going to sign Jack Rodwell if Hargreaves is rendered disposable.

I went for Sneider if Man Utd could bring him in is a different matter. It would take some persuading and a big bid from Utd a more likely option might be Daniele De Rossi.
Re: Who should be brought in to replace Scholes?
Wesley Sneider would be great but we got to be realistic.
