Week 4 - Team Scholes
Myself and Lady Viva have this week won £100m on the Euromillions lottery. After much discussion, we have decided to keep £50m for personal use, and to use the remaining £50m for an exciting business opportunity.
We want to own our own football club, and take it to the Premier League. Your task is three-fold:
- Choose a current non-league team to takeover, giving consideration to the fans, the town, and the history of the club;
- Plot our future course - stadium improvements, fan buy-in, sponsorship deals, player purchases, promotion planning etc;
- Come up with a club ethos - how will our club be known around the world in its principles and style? Factor in expectation of the players, the media, playing and coaching styles etc
Remember to cost up all your parts of the submission so we know how you're spending our money.
I realise this could be a HUGE task, so I will take that into account if you don't write 6 pages of text.
The winner will be the team that comes up with the more exciting portfolio. From the losing team, one of you will be fired.

Right guys, immediately I want us to have an idea of which club to go for on this, obviously I'm drawn to Macc Town on my location but if anyone else wishes to nominate one then please do so.

Re: Week 4 - Team Scholes
Salisbury City.
No big clubs particularly nearby as neither Bristol Clubs, Swindon or Southampton are in immediate distance. Can pick up a huge amount of fans who are in that middle zone of Wiltshire.
The club was on the brink of making into the football league before falling into debt and inexplicably being dropped down 2 divisions by the FA.
The fan base is quite large already and I know a lot of people from that area (its where I grew up before moving to Brighton) who regularly attend games.
Plenty of nearby greenness for stadium building.
Also could big up an Army connection (Salisbury Plain)

Re: Week 4 - Team Scholes
What's the average gate there at present.
With Macc Id be looking to actually push the fact that the two big Manc sides are within twenty miles and target those fans to come and watch us if their side is away. It's also a very affluent area with the likes of Prestbury, Alderly Edge, Knutsford and Wilmslow all in close proximity so has the potential for investment.

Re: Week 4 - Team Scholes
Good shout Trebs but could Manchester support another big team?
What about Truro FC, there are no big football sides in Cornwall so its an untouched market

Re: Week 4 - Team Scholes
My thoughts:
There are no Premier League teams in the Yorkshire area or in the East Midlands. There are only a few in the East Midlands (Derby County, Leicester, Nottingham Forest) but it is unlikely that any of those will be settled in the Premier League anytime soon. Same goes for the likes of Hull City and Huddersfield in Yorkshire.

I also think we should be looking at previous success stories and taking inspiration from those. Wigan for example have done very well. FC United would be a bad choice now I think about it as the point is that they don't want rich people owning the club and it's for the fans. Truro FC could be a good shout.

Re: Week 4 - Team Scholes
If anyone else wishes to take up the reins on this be my guest, sorry Azzy, this task is just one I'm not keen on, was hoping for a more fun one or one that is measurable and this is just a bit too similar to the past two.

Re: Week 4 - Team Scholes
I can do the reasons for choosing them, but I think we should look at more where we're taking the club

Re: Week 4 - Team Scholes
I've done more digging, and I strongly oppose doing Truro City. They are £4m in debt which is huge for a club of their size. They also have a woman wanting £1m off them.

Sorry but I'm dead against this idea.

Who would you want to do then Trebs, I have already written some stuff for Truro but as I'm off tomorrow I can do a nice bit of writing this evening/tomorrow morning.
You say what you want done and it will be.
