Why can't all the high profile fights.........
Have either Kenny Bayliss or Steve Smoger as referees????
Two of the fairest refs in the game and always control the action so the fans get their moneys worth.

Smoger, almost every time I see him, is excellent. Makes the boxers work their way out of the clinches when too many referees fall in to the trap of either allowing too much holding or, on the other hand, separating them as soon as they clinch, when there's still a possibility that one of them could do some work inside. A fine line, but he treads it well. Also seems to genuinely have the interests of the fighters at heart.

My dream team would be Joe Cortez as ref with Ian John Lewis, Roger Tilleman and Eugenia Williams as judges.

Yea Chris, you always feel safe in the notion that a fight is going to run smoothly with Smoger in charge.
When Mayweather fought Ortiz they had that clown Cortez in charge but Bayliss was refereeing on the undercard.
Bayliss also done the Floyd vs Mosley fight as far as I can remember. So don't see why these two aren't being used more often for the big ones.
I only say this because I hope this Khan vs Peterson fight gets one of these two refs to save any nonsense after.

With Cortez on a unicycle, IJL juggling fire, Roger Tilleman doing magic tricks and Eugenia Williams jumping through hoops. They are all clowns so I'm sure this would be no trouble at all.

Reborn you are not thinking about it sensibly, no matter what fight you watch you would be on the edge of your seat because you would have literally no idea how they were scoring it or what Cortez was going to do next, just imagine the debates we would be still having had IJL given Lacy the nod over Calzaghe.

I wonder who is refereeing the Khan - Peterson fight, because if it's Smoger Khan will be in trouble

Will probably be Joe Cortez. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.
Re: Why can't all the high profile fights.........
Bayliss is the best ref around imo. Smoger is very good as well. Some seem to think he lets fights go on to long but I think that might just be us Brits as we are so used to our refs jumping in the minute someone lands a clean punch.
How Cortez still gets so many top fights is beyond me. Ramirez who was in charge of Salido vs Lopez 2 is another good ref I've seen him in charge of a few fights and he doesn't get to involved and lets fighters fights.

Would also throw in Tony Weeks and Jay Nady, also very good refs, I am a big fan of Smoger and Bayliss though if there were a Boxing Refs HOF they would be there.

Richard Steele could be up there with the more modern ones, though his respectability took a dive after the Taylor-Chavez fight and with Taylors management then making the allegations that he was in Don Kings pocket. Which I don't believe.
