EPL Bargain's
Rolling on from a few posts regarding Frank Lampard in the 'best team' article, who in your opinion have been the best buys since the EPL began.
Frank of course was £10million well spent.
Cantona £1 to Utd and Ronaldo £12 to the same team have been two more obvious ones.

Cantona has to be the bargain!!
RVP - £2.75m. Not a bad bargain!!
Sami Hyypia - £2.5m!
Can you believe Kolo Toure only cost Arsenal £150,000.

Some nice ones there crazy.
Wimbledon have done some fine negotiating over the years. Terry Phelan, Barton and Scales to name a few.

I think Man U got Peter Schmeichel for something like £550k.
Other than him, Joe Hart went from Shrewsbury to Man City for an initial £600k, he's got to be one of the best bargains.

Whilst £10m is indeed money well spent, it was a lot at the time and therefore doesn’t, IMO, constitute a bargain.
Think other posters have hit the nail on the head with Anelka £500k->£20m+; Ronaldo £12m->£85m and Toure £150k->£16m being probably the best bits of business in the Prem whilst Cantona (£1.2m) and maybe Schemichel (£500k) two of the best out and out bargains given what they went on to achieve for their club.

Yeh we were pretty good at getting players on the cheap and selling them on. Keith Curle was a prime example. Signed him for £500,000 in 1988 then in 1991 Man City broke their own transfer record to get him. It was only £2.5m but for a club like Wimbledon at that time it was a fantastic bit of business.
You will also find that a lot of Wimbledon players played for England........after they had left us!! I think England managers had a thing about the club.

Alan Shearer - £15million, 260 Prem Goals.
Using your calculation.... Odemwingie would cost about £27million for that kind of return.

Shearer was a bargain for Blackburn. Lot's of profit and a championship medal that they probably wouldn't have got without him.

Jussi Jaaskelainen was 100k to Bolton and possibly been one of the best keepers in PL consistantly for a long time.

It's fair to say that Wenger has been as shrewd as any in the transfer market.
Henry at £11m wasn't cheap but boy did he repay Wenger.

Not in the EPL but didn't Barcelona get Messi for the price of some growth hormone treatment?

Re: EPL Bargain's
Cantona in the context of the transfer market as it is now would be an absolute bargain but the £1mil he cost back in 1992 was a fair bit of money back then, great signing nonetheless.

Re: EPL Bargain's
Demba Ba...at the moment is looking a bargain.
Cheik Tiote could be a bargain aswell...certainly been worth his 2.5 - 3m price since his arrival.
I take it your not looking at home grown players like Giggs, Scholes etc.
Mind Beckham...a home grown and made united £25m or something wasnt a bad bit of business.
How much did Denis Irwin cost...he's was a big player for united.

No, not really looking at players that came through the youth system. They though can be the best bit of business you can make.
Irwin cost £625,000 in 1990.

He's a long way to go to match some of the above but 350k in this day and age for James McClean looks like a bargain already..
