Question for Biltong
Biltong, the rumour down at the dragons is that we are looking at outside half peter grant from SA,
can you shed light on the feasibility of this...is he out of contract this year? and also whats his ability?

I don't know about his availability, but a couple of years back he was rated very highly (though I think he's had some injuries and has been pushed down the pecking order by the emergence of Lambie)

Re: Question for Biltong
Gavindragon I know he was contracted to Japan for the last 2-3 years, He is playing super rugby for the Stormers this season, I haven't heard any news about whether his contract is up in Japan yet.

Re: Question for Biltong
As far as his quality goes, he has an accurate boot and in my opinion is better than morne Steyn, he has been unlucky not to play for the Springboks (I tihnk he played one test), he is good at getting the back line away, stands nice and flat and can attack the gain line, better than Ruan Pienaar, if that will help.

Re: Question for Biltong
What about this bloke Northampton Saints have just signed then Biltong? Gerrit-Jan van Velze, a back rower 'one of the most highly rated youngster in SA'........not sure I believe that!

Yep, that correct Ozzy, well he played for the Bulls, so he has pedigree, the problem for many of our loose forwards are that there are so many of them that they have to be exceptional to reach international level, he isn't the biggest guy though.

Re: Question for Biltong
Well he sounds great...
If he is any good why would he come to the dragons? We will only sign players no other teams want. Surly a good 10 would be wanted by many better sides than us. Sorry for the negativity but it's always been the same...

Re: Question for Biltong
I'd like it to happen but who have we signed in the last 8 years who other teams would want? We only got chavhanga and tuilagi as they were suffering from injures and other teams wouldn't take the risk.
I don't think there will be much between the regions next season... There all rubbish.
I heard we were after butch james, d manu, D. Jones and mustoe.
Its a shane that huw Bennett is out if contract, a gwent lad and there's no way he'd come to us (not that he's that good).

Re: Question for Biltong
Thing with this is having Chav on board praising the support to the hilt etc will only boost our profile to people like Peter Grant. So it's feasible. That said I am not sure I really want him anyway, seeing as we have two talented tens as it is (even when Tovey goes) and they're Welsh.

Re: Question for Biltong
Thats true Gav. Id want it were I a Dragons fan. It seems a strange one. Development is surely a factor otherwise its very strange.
Re: Question for Biltong
In my opinion for what it`s worth,he is very good.Should have had a lot more Bok caps,he is better all round . Than either Steyn or Butch James, perhaps Lambie as well.Lambie is young and the coming man ,Grant probably past Bok caps now.

Re: Question for Biltong
Can't really compare Butch and Grant, very different players, depends what your playing style is like. If your looking for a fast offloading attacking game, there aren't many better playmakers than Butch

I get that of course yeah, but then he's going to want to play and we have Shaun Connor within the region to aid the development (though of course Connor wasn't all that). I'd rather get a tight head and a second row and maybe an NWQ centre who hasn't got hands like a digital watch (sorry Jiffy)

Re: Question for Biltong
We do need a tight head but who doesn't... Maybe we can't improve there. We are desperate for to locks. A 10 would be ok but in the backs I'd rather get a good fullback (along with Evans) or a centre.
Lock is my main worrie, along with 7. Thomas is getting injured more often and it's taking him time to recover. Evans isnt quick enough (or switched on) to play 7. He's a good 6/8 though. Waters looks good but I feel he isn't good enough to be first choice.

Re: Question for Biltong
Also if Gavin Thomas was out wouldn't you play Lydiate there (or Faletau) and play Lewis Evans at 6/8?

Re: Question for Biltong
I have to admit, when I saw this thread the first time I thought it would be more a cultural topic. You know sharing traditional age old recipes.
Now I know the OP really wanted to ask me a different question but was unsure of how to get to it. I do understand that Europeans apart from the odd Steak Tartar, don't really dabble into the realm of raw meat.
So not to out the OP as an avid experimentalist of foreign quisine I thought I will just put it out there for all of you.
