I had a dream...er...nightmare
In a shock move Gareth Jenkins (scrap metal and piebald horse dealer and former Scarlets and Wales coach) has been called up by Gerald Davies and Andy Irvine to coach the Lions on their 2013 Tour to Australia. Jenkins would not have been many's first choice for the role, but was upbeat at the hurriedly called press conference in the Frankie and Benny's, Parc Pemberton:
"For sure it is a great honour for me to be chosen for this role. After a few years in the coaching wilderness its a reformation of my coaching capacities. I am well versed in the Barbarian's philosophy and played of course under THE greatest coach of Wales, Carwyn James."
When asked about selection he stated he had an open mind, but:
"A number of players have impressed me in this five nations tournament. There is time to go yet, and others may plate up to the step. I would envisage players like Jacobsen, Hartley, Court, McCarthy, Parling, Barclay, Robshaw, Heaslip, Dixon, Priestland, Trimble, D'Arcy, De Luca, Ashton and Evans would be there or there abouts come the first test."
When asked about his preferred style for the Lions he said:
"We want an attacking conservatism blended with a flair defence..."
Davies and Irvine remained tight lipped. Irvine appeared very pale whilst Davies at one point seemed to be visibly rocking back and fore in his bar stool...
