Nightmare contenders Empty Nightmare contenders

Who are the frightening contenders. I'm not talking about the elite, your foremans and Fraziers but for Example Tua who has a fantastic chin and can knock you out cold with either hand but can be beaten by a disciplined top level operator. Who do you think is such an awkward or gruelling fight that champions would rather not fight if they can help it.

One is Tua and another is the bodysnatcher Mike Mccallum who wasn't even considered unless the opponent had little to lose and much to gain. Eubank said that he wouldn't duck roy jones if he was to match him but he wouldn't go looking for him. Roy Jones said later on that Eubank might beat him but he would pay and pay dearly so much so that neither would be the same after. I'm looking for those sort of fights and fighters except a level down from RJJ.

I think theres only a couple, at the moment I think Golkovin fits the bill, he's dangerous and although I think Martinez would win, I think its a very dangerous fight for him.

Kell Brook sort of fits too - think Mayweather beats him - yet he'll blow through most other boxers around his weight.

Good topic Shah, got my noodle working today!

Richard Abril Was desperately unlucky v Rios..very tricky operator indeed..may be slightly flimsy at the very highest level..

Some good names - its not limited to current fighters btw so feel free to chuck some obscure names that might have made a splash at the time but is rarely spoken of now.

Erislandy Lara is one of those guys. I don't think he has the fire ever to be at the top, but none of the top guys want to fight him because he's so technically good and hard to look good against.

Sam Peter was the Nigerian nightmare, so he must qualify shah.

I guess it had more aliterative appeal than the more apt, nigerian lardarse, and, on reflection, perhaps nightmare was apt for some of his performances.

Steve Collins must apply as anightmare to the likes of Eubank. The way he psyched Eubank out must have given him nightmares.

I'd like to throw Chris Byrd into the mix. He was such an elusive heavyweight and quick too. He was so horrible to watch and must have been a nightmare to fight. I always regarded him as a pain in the butt for any opponent.

He's not on the same form now, but a few years ago (around 07-10') Katsidis fit this bill pretty well.

Aye - Bika also came to mind. Nasty little bugger and hard nut to crack.

McCallum is a great shout. Great fighter but couldn't draw flies so the big names avoided him.

Herol Graham is another.

I think that anyone who has one punch power and has a chin always fall into this category as they can change the course of a fight in any one of the 12 rounds
