Some very tasty match-ups with veterans squaring-off...
Davy vs Blake... Great match-up with two aggressive players. But Davy must come through with his recent form.
Mahut vs Gonzo... Good contrast of styles. Farewell tournament for Gonzo.

Indeed, pretty interesting matches even in the 1st round! Thanks for posting this.
spuranik why don't you give the 606v2 World Tour a try? Deadline for Miami is in 25 minutes

Blake Davydenko shoudl be interesting. Their H2H is 7/0 (reminds me of another recent H2H).
But though neither Blake or Davydenko are on top form, I am pretty sure Blake is further away from it.
Blake, another much underated player from the weak/strong era supporters.

OK fair enough! You can still grab some cheap points from Miami by simply posting:
Everying according to seeding!

Yes, quite surprising to see that H2H with the only encounter on clay going Blake's way as well. That too in 2009 when Davy was in quite good form and Blake wasn't.
Tommy Haas is also in action against young French qualifier Rufin.

Ah Rufin is back! I wondered where he disappeared.

Why there isn't a single stream available?? Seems explicable as there are streams for Marrakech and Bath challengers...

Re: Miami Masters Day 01 Matches of the Day
Dimitrov through to the second round with a easy 54 minutes win... Next up is Juan Ignicio Chela. A lot depends on court speed in that match. If court is playing anything like in Indian Wells he is in for a long battle.
A couple of surprises as in-form players Matosevic and Bellucci crash out in the first round...
A tough battle going on between Llodra and Rosol with Rosol one set up..

During the 2009 clay season Davy was just coming back from injury. In that period he also lost to Murray on clay (at that time quite average on the surface) in a match littered with errors. His form was nowhere near the form he had at the end of 2009, when he caught fire.

Haha Tenez isn't there a single moment where you can give Nadal some rest?

Thanks Chydremion, didn't know that...
Well, Davy might not alter that losing streak today it looks like... Trailing 4-1 already losing his serve 3 times...

Has anyone been watching the matches?
How is the court playing?
I've heard a rumour that it is playing faster this year.

Seems that the guys that did well in Indian Wells are losing early in Miami: Bellucci, Istomin and Andujar already out... Only Nalbandian won his R1 match but he also struggled.
So maybe the court conditions in Miami are indeed quite different and take some getting used to!

Or maybe not. The players mentioned here are very inconsistent anyways. Need some player's interviews about the court conditions. Anyone has any information how are the courts playing?

They're possibly faster!
Brad Gilbert twitted this on 20/3: "Heard from a very reliable source: Courts are playing much quicker this yr-not much grit-very unusual for MIAMI, big hitters will like that."

Brad Gilbert@bgtennisnation
Answer about Courts-Center court playing slower alot like last yr, but surprisingly the outside courts are way quicker & nothing like Center
Weird!
Is this a new strategy to favour the big seeds.
Or is this more poor observation from Brad?

I expected him to lose today. It must have been an overwhelming experience playing in one's last tournament. I didn't see the match, but I can assume he must not be really focused on winning.
Its alright anyway. To Gonzo

More likely the latter. I heard he's got a big mouth.
I'm lost. Don't the big seeds play on both Ctr AND ouside courts? And the biggest seeds usually stick to ctr court that's slower, according to the latest news? That means it favours Fed less, not that that matters anymore if his game is still on.
