Betting on Wrestlemania
First topic message reminder :
I'm not sure whether this has already been posted but Paddy Power are taking bets on the major matches at WM.
John Cena is 8-11 while The Rock is EVENS for their match.
I am so tempted to lump on Cena. I use to work in the betting industry and I have never known a bookmakers to be so stupid in offering odds on wrestling.

Not bad value for Team Teddy in the scheme of things - a win isn't implausible and may be worth a couple of quid as a long shot.

Much respect for that bet.
I was thinking about backing £220 on Cena but I just cannot bring myself to do it. I'm probly gonna put a £20 roll up on all the matches.

The only way I can see cena losing is if he snaps and gets himself dq'd and batters the rock

Team Johnny v Tema Teddy opened up on sky with both 5/6, and i was gonna lump on John boy, but at that price I can't. I've had a rhodes/orton double and will probably continue on the night as I drink. Tempted to bet on Cena just to soften the blow if he wins

See I think if anything The Rock is a great price at EVENS because while all logic states that Cena wins, unless he turns, is it going to be worth ending Wrestlemania with the majority of 80,000 fans booing the crap out of your supposed "Hero"?

Another reason for me thinking like that is that Punk, Taker, Sheamus and Cena are all obvious winners of their matches, and knowing Vince's well documented propensity for changing match outcomes to throw a surprise in the mix, suggests that at least one of those 4 are losing unexpectedly.
If Punk loses the title to Jericho then his (Punk) entire gimmick is dead in the water. Jericho can always get over a loss.
If Sheamus loses, his Main Event steam disappears instantly. Bryan still has the AJ storyline going if he loses.
If Undertaker loses the streak is gone and to a semi-retired veteran. HHH will be unscathed by another loss.
That leaves Cena-Rock where either man winning makes sense, but Rocky winning gives you an awesome feel good moment to end Wrestlemania.

Re: Betting on Wrestlemania
I was considering this with a friend yesterday and when I was predicting who I thought would win, it was coming out almost all face.
I had: Cena, Taker, Big Show, Sheamus, Punk... the only exception seemingly being Team Johnny.
Surely it will be a more balanced affair than that, but I struggle to pick where a heel will win for many of the reasons you have given Don. The last match I'd bet on is Cena/Rock, because I can't for the life of me decide who goes over who.
One thing that may sway me towards the Rock is as you say - it's in Miami and it'll be the enduring message from this Mania. Do they want Cena being booed to high heaven to define it? Another thing is this talk of him proving himself the best ever with a win; it seems like a title the WWE would like to put on The Rock, as an ambassador for them. And finally, if the rumours of a continuing feud are true - I see Cena getting his win back later, away from Miami and all the boos he'll be getting.

Definitely agree that Team Johnny is the only locked in Heel win. I think if the WWE are smart, Rhodes should go over Big Show, but considering the build, I think poor Cody is eating a TKO Punch as he goes for a 2nd or 3rd Beautiful Disaster kick.
Totally agree that Rock/Cena is the hardest call, and for that the WWE should be congratulated. But its probably got more to do with Rock being Rock than the WWE's booking.

Yeah I think Team Johnny is a lock because there is no way Teddy Long is appearing on both shows. Laurinitus was just starting to get into a real groove before HHH came back to sack him. I think Laurinitus has been the endgame for the General Manager related plots for a while now.

Re: Betting on Wrestlemania
I think Teddy has been getting the upper hand for too long in the feud so it seems natural for Big Johnny to have his moment. Plus the thought is that Johnny is the GM of both shows, with Teddy as his assistant - that is something I'd like to see.
The feud could easily continue between the two before Johnny gets his comeuppance and Teddy takes back SD (but not Raw, Johnny is still gold).

Re: Betting on Wrestlemania
In regards to Punk - I can see him losing the title after being screwed by Johnny. This would really give their fued the massive push it needs and possibly become the main storyline after WM.

Re: Betting on Wrestlemania
I agree, Johnny to get involved is really on the cards. Helps Johnny stay firm in the focus (especially as I dont think a lot of fans will care about the tag match), and also adds legs to Jericho/Punk doing another PPV.
However, there could be another direction to go with that. He will really go heel with the smackdown crowd if he puts his foot in with the Bryan match, and keeps that feud alive similarly to the Punk Jericho one with intervention.
Both of those points also come from my personal desire to see feuds last longer than one ppv though, which i've not been backed up on a lot recently by the big events.
As its about gambling here, the value bets really are Bryan, Jericho and Rock at prices of around 9/4, 6/4 and evens respectively.
Orton needs a win, and that win could lead him into contention of a three way crown feud on Smackdown, and three way battles can work to add spice to a stale feud. Everyone enjoys seeing two faces go respectfully at each other with the snide heel still in the picture.
Show seems to be becoming a bit like Foley did, a man to put people over. His wit and popularity help him highlight others.
As for The Rock, until I came on here I was convinced he'd win, but the more people insist Cena must win the more I see their logic. But its The Rock in Miami, and evens is a great price. I was just really saying I'd bet on Cena just cos I dont want him to win so it would soften that blow.

Sky bet are offering odds aswell, CM Punk is 4/6 with them, I think that's a pretty good bet. I also think Cody Rhodes will win, and im suprised he's 11/10. The double pays 5/2.

So who dropped huge cash on Cena? I remember someone said they laid quite an amount on old Fruity Pebbles pinning Rocky.

I did make about 75% of the steak back on the football over Sat and Sun so I got lucky, but It could of been so much better.

Well to be fair, conventional thinking would have Cena going over as "Pass the Torch" style moment but Rock being Rock and Wrestlemania being in Miami, meant conventional wasn't going to be good enough.

My 6 single bets yielded 4 wins (Sheamus, Big Show, Punk and Undertaker) with 2 defeats (Orton and Cena).
My £5.40 outlay returned...
Wait for it...
£5.03.
