Surely Ramps has to play for Surrey. I also feel Rudolph would be better at 3 or 4 for you lot. Perhaps Hamilton-Brown, de Bruyn (deputising for Davies), Rudolph, Ramprakash, Maynard, Roy, Wilson (wk), Batty, Lewis, Linley, Dernbach. In some ways you are spoilt for choice, and the second openers slot seems the only place to get de Bruyn in right now.

Re: Starting Selection V Sussex
Is Ramps available?
If so, I would be tempted to play him in place of Roy for the time being.
Reindeer
Hyphen
Ramps
Brain
Winegums
Monty (Burns) WK
CJ
Batty
Meaker (if fit, otherwise Dernbach)
Lewis
Linley
Not sure where Jordan would bat though, he may be tried as an opener as he has been pre-season. In which case he would be a straight swap for Hyphen.

Team I think Adams might go with:
1. Rudolph*
2. Jordan
3.Ramps*
4. The Brain*
5. Hyphen*
6. Maynard
7. Burns (wkt)
8. Batty*
9. Lewis
10. Viscount
11. Dernbach
* Adams confirmed these selections and batting orders at Thursday's AGM. He could of course still change his mind.
Bench: Roy, Wilson and Meaker.
All very tricky. As Shelsey says, we are in some ways spoilt for choice. However, we are not spoilt for good pre-season form. Roy and Hyphen can hardly buy a run.
I do still wonder if Wilson might keep and Burns play just as a batsman. I thought that was more likely before Jordan's good all round form in the current University match - hard to see him being left out now.
Although I've shown Meaker as being on the bench, that could almost equally be Viscount or Dernbach instead. At the AGM Adams seemed very enthusiastic about Lewis's experience and pre-season form so I'm pretty sure he'll start.
The current University match might still have some twists and turns which could also influence things. We'll know soon. Hoping to make it on Thursday ....

Re: Starting Selection V Sussex
Judging by the fact that Jordan has opened both the batting and the bowling in the current match, I'm thinking Adams is making a direct challenge to Jordan to show that he is worth selection in the cc. And to be fair, Jordan is making a good go of it so far.
Wilson has just fallen fairly cheaply again which must increase the prospects for Burns. I'm wondering (in similar vein to Guildford) about a side for the cc along the lines of
Reindeer
River
Gramps
The Brain
Winegums
Hyphen
Monty Burns
Batty
Lewis
Two from the Viscount, Meaker and Dernbach
A strong team IF people were in form.

Re: Starting Selection V Sussex
Quite possibly, CF. Surrey haven't actually got any established openers. Hyphen and Roy was a very hit and miss opening partnership last year. Adams told the AGM that Hyphen would play at No 5. If he had had Roy in mind to open Roy would surely be opening in the current match.
All this suggests someone like Jordan might be selected to open alongside the Reindeer. Spriegel was another possibility, but so far it hasn't worked using him in that position.

I'd agree with the majority, but I would love to see Meaker play, probably in place of Lewis (I know it wont happen).

Re: Starting Selection V Sussex
I agree with guildford's selection, although I have a feeling Meaker may replace the Viscount. I'm OK with Jordan opening for 1 game, he won't do any worse than Hyphen/Roy and is bowling well atm. I expect Davies to open when he's back.

I assume that when Davies is back, he'll open and Jordan will replace Burns/Wilson at no. 7

Seems likely, depends whether we want 4 or 5 bowlers. I still want Roy to play.

I agree that if Meaker is fit and on form he should play. That's the skill of cricket management - knowing which version of Meaker will turn up....

Re: Starting Selection V Sussex
Following the Viscount's match winning and face saving fivefer today, I'm sure he'll play against Sussex.
At last week's AGM Adams confirmed that Batty would play and strongly implied that Lewis would too.
That seems to leave just one place for Meaker or Dernbach.
