Exchange - a - WUM
First topic message reminder :
I just spent an amusing few minutes browsing the ' Don't be a one section hermit ' thread, was delighted to see that the fame of our favourite eccentric, the redoubtable and inimitable D4, has spread beyond our borders. He now enjoys notoriety and affection - in equal measure , in the sunnier climes of the tennis forum, and is also getting a foothold with the folks at the rugby league and football sections. Of particular note is the number of Chelsea supporters who now wish Ancelotti to spend some of his master's roubles in tempting Manny Pacquiao to operate in centre midfield for Chelsea next season, and how some are calling for Manny to be given a wild card entry into the American Open at Flushing Meadow at the end of this year. Manny will be seeded with Ilie Nastase, Rod Laver, John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg in his side of the draw. At the special request of Freddie Roach it has also been agreed that all players will play left handed except, of course, Laver and McEnroe.
Anyway, back to the point.
I expect you'll all remember that, as kids, there was a ' school exchange ' system in operation. I remember my sister exchanged with a French girl, name of Dubost, and as a healthy seven year old I was most disappointed to find out that the exchange was only temporary. I would have happily surrendered my sister in order that I could live with Mademoiselle Dubost, who seemed to me to be every schoolboy's dream. Sadly, showering her with Liquorice Allsorts and copies of Ring magazine were to no avail, and my passion remained unrequited. Anyway, she came to live with us for a while, and my sister later toddled off to France to acquaint herself with the French language and snails. All very cultural and to everybody's benefit.
I haven't run this by the admin fellas yet, but I thought it might be fun to operate an ' Exchange - a - WUM ' system here at 606v2. It would work like this :
Every month, each forum has a poll in which members vote for ' WUM - of - the - month, ' with the understanding that each elected WUM cannot serve consecutive terms. He CAN be re - elected, but only after a period of three months. Said WUM would then be required to surrender his passport for ONE WEEK, during which he practises his trade at another forum. We, in turn, enjoy the company of a WUM from another forum during the same period. Imagine, if you will, the joy to be derived when, amidst the tedium of ' Who had the best jab in history ? ' we can also sample fare along the lines of ' Federer is a ducker - still won't play Rafa, ' or ' Gooners are chokers, ' and perhaps even the strange phenomenon by which Time runs at a different speed at Old Trafford when Manchester United aren't winning. Being as we are, twenty first century progressive chaps and ladies, multi - culturalism should be reflected in the forum, in my opinion. I can already imagine how, a few short months from now, we'll be waxing lyrical about the topspin which Manny applies to his right hook, the footwork of Stephen Hendry, the best ' cuts ' man in golf, the stamina of Eric Bristow and the benefits of modern nutrition and training methods enjoyed by today's cricket umpires.
' Exchange - a - WUM ' makes all this possible. What say you ?

D4 I respect you as a poster seems a pleasant chap, always talks boxing, but even I find the topic of Pacquiao testing my patience and I'm one of his biggest fans, its getting to the point where genuine Manny fans on here whom I'm sure would love to see spank Floyd are actually beginning to shift corners, just for the simple fact they'd love to log on and ram down your throat..
I wouldn't be one of those but just an opinion.
Cheers

I even find when I try and write on a different topic, some posters want to bring it back to the Mayweather vs Pacquiao debate.

Perish the thought that someone should segue a discussion into Manny and Floyd, eh ?

Probably element of truth mate, I'm just frankly bored of the topic now, as Floyd fans will make the excuses and Manny vice versa.

It has gotten to the point now where plenty of people post with the intention of winding D4 up, then cry foul when he responds. It's all a bit silly really.

If a genie popped up out of a lamp and gave me three wishes, I genuinely would waste one of them to wish for Manny and Mayweather to finally fight and for there to be a clean win for one of them with no controversy.

I think he might be Blofeld style criminal genius; whose entire purpose is to make people dislike/hate Pacquiao; because his real favourite fighter is Mayweather!

Just to be serious for a moment, wow_ junky, it probably HAS got to that point.
However, the situation is borne of the fact that sensible debate concerning Manny and Floyd has become a no go area. Everybody who attempts to discuss these two knows in advance that he is going to be confronted with the same old nonsense and propaganda, much of which has zero to do with their attributes as fighters.
Inconsistency, moving goalposts, unfounded allegations, personal criticisms of Mayweather, etc., etc., have made any debate concerning the two best fighters on the planet all but impossible.
If we would ALL agree to a fresh start and open, honest and consistent debate we'd all benefit, but it takes agreement by ALL parties to achieve this.

Think that is the issue for me Windy, has reached a point where the two greatest fighters on the planet, weight jumping and catchweights are all off limits because people know how the debate will degenerate.
A boxing forum where people are loath to discuss the best fighters in the world cannot be a healthy place.

Over 300 of them were most of us writing incoherent nonsense that had no relevance to anything, very rarely does anyone actually debate the subject any more, long may it continue

I know D4 has his un-waivering opinions, but even when I try to bring sensible debate to the subject I get equally ridiculous rebuttals back from the "Floyd side". At least D4 is only 1 person and can be ignored (I find it strange that so many people feel the need to respond to his often ridiculous claims!), but on the other you have quite a few people who are even more ridiculous in their arguments against Pacquiao, and when confronted with a decent argument they either ignore it or continue to roll out the PED, weight drained, passed it, catchweight arguments...
A clean slate would be good, but people would have to accept that D4 is obviously a massive Pac fan and take his opinions with a pinch of salt and not get so wound up.

Re: Exchange - a - WUM
Most threads consist of something like this:
D4: Manny Pacquiao is the best fighter of all time, he's one of the best looking Flip you've ever seen, he's one of the greatest singers of all times...
Everyone else: Shut up D4.
D4: Mayweather is a ducker. Manny is the best fighter ever, he is a caring and sharing human being with a lovely little beard...
Everyone else: You are a tool.
Etc etc.
It does grind down even the most sane and sensible of posters after a while.

D4, it's because everyone thinks you're annoying, unobjective and ignorant.
If Windy posted one of them he'd probably get a half decent debate, which speaks volumes for how people perceive you and your obsessive "views"

D4 I like you - I really do. You're a good sport, and jousting with you can be fun. However, I KNOW your tactics and I KNOW how you push buttons. It's all very insidious, subtle and pretty clever, and in small doses it's healthy.
However,
NOTHING is healthy when fair and open discussion about two of the greatest talents in modern boxing is made impossible by Goebbels - esque propaganda and rhetoric.
PLEASE consider the comfort and pleasures of other users who would like to HONESTLY debate the merits of Floyd and Manny.
Thank you.

I totally agree Jeff but my fear is that, in amongst the backbiting and mudslinging caused by the ever present Manny/Floyd furore, the truly great articles (and by virtue of the subject matter, my article would surely fall into that catagory no matter how poorly written) will get lost in the mire.rowley wrote:What the new forum needs Dave is a Peter Jackson article, think if people are introduced to the majesty and genius of the Black Prince their appetite to discuss those who must not be named will soon abate.

Well, maybe you should reserve judgement until you know the reasons.
Things have been getting very heated here recently and tempers have flared. It seemed to me that if we could open up a ' silly ' thread about WUMMING folks might enter into the spirit of it, lighten up a bit, have a chance to laugh at the recent punch ups instead of letting them escalate, and leave the rest of the serious threads unscathed.
Whether it works or not, only time will tell, but the thread was created for the good of all who use the forum, and in appreciation of the fact that we HAVE had some unpleasantness, lately.

Dave, I remember a few people saying they miss him , in the dying days of the old site. Granted this may have been humane concern for the mentally ill.
As I maintain about the "I like Mike" brigade- it's good to know that there's a place for the oddballs in society whom are so often neglected.I fear Davidemore is now living in a skip and it's only a matter of time before something tragic occurs.
Plus the poems. Windy writes amazing poems, but they metrically scan.Davidemore's were how I'd imagine Charlie Parker's last freeform solo would be like, as he drifted into his last drug-induced coma.

Sadly for you, they'd be discounted due to the fact that even ONE boxing comment made would negate your assertion that they "never" talk about boxing...even though that misguided assertion is probably more to do with your inability to read
Hope that clears things up...as the doctor said after your latest ill-fated trip to the Blue Oyster
